Akram had ****tiest fielding team. Many drop catches. Imagine Akram's ability in Aussie team. Man, he wouldn't have to bowl stump to stump so many times any more.

Akram is believed to be bribed in instances to under perform.
How is that a point in favour of Wasim Akram ?

McGrath is the greatest ODI bowler of all time.

He was in by far the most batsman friendly era of ODI cricket, and yet his stats stand up to the best.

He is by far, unquestionably the most successful bowler in world cups and won Man of the Series in 2007.

All of this talk about talent means nothing next to the ability to both keep the runs low and take wickets (not taking anything away from any of the other bowlers here, just saying that aesthetics shouldn't be the primary method of judging a player).
No. As big a fan i am of McGrath, i just dont agree to this. Played most of his cricket on helpful tracks.

I would agree with you here. Wasim played his ODI cricket where average ODI scores were much higher than elsewhere. In Australia average ODI scores are probably lower than in Pakistan. The new ball doesn't bounce much either. The fact that whenever Wasim has bowled in ODIs in Australia he has bowled outstandingly well. 1992 world cup, C&U World Series 1996-97, Aus, Ind, and Pak series in 1999.

I am only basing this on the ODIs that I have seen (have not looked up at the real stats).

this is what i posted on another thread, its applicable here.

who would say ruud van nistelrooy is a better striker than the brazillian ronaldo - on goal scoring you have a pretty strong case

now, who would say van nistlrooy was a better PLAYER than the brazillian ronaldo? - hardly no one.

the argument of mcgrath being as or anywhere near as skillful as akram is similar to the above.

it may in fact be a total red herring because at the end of the day all you care about is wickets and mcgrath was a better wicket taker, but overall not as brilliant as akram, who like ronaldo had more facets to his game, had more ability, had more skillz and was capable of the outrageously brilliant in a way mcgrath could only dream of

what differentiated mcgrath was his professionalism and longevity which i think only akram can dream of!

we are much more liekly to see a player like mcgrath in the future then we are akram, thats why akram is so unique.
