*Official* Pakistan v South Africa in Dubai

I wouldn't call inconsistent bounce as a lively pitch. Home advantage is fine but then why do Pakistan always prepare roads? I feel that it might not be all that easy to prepare lively pitches here in the SC. Might have to do with the climate and the soil. Not sure though. Maybe somebody can shed some light on it.
Pakistan used to have good bowling wickets back in 80s and 90s. Looks like they wanted their batsmen a fair chance to catch up with Tendulkars and Dravids hence the roads were built. ;)

I think they had roads back even in the 1980s. Dennis Lillee said it is a graveyard for fast bowlers.

I heard that back in the day when one of the subcontinent sides (might have been Pakistan?) used matting wickets (I think that's what they were called) and they could change during matches from bowling wickets to batting wickets and vice versa randomly.

Would have made for some hilarious cricket.

So is it possible to have lively pitches in the SC. I haven't seen any (only heard about Mohali though). And in the last test played there it was not lively.
3rd Test: India v England at Mumbai, Mar 18-22, 2006 | Cricket Scorecard | ESPN Cricinfo

There are more instances. However, The classic Indian pitch is one which is flat for the first 2 days, starts to break up on the third day and by the 5th day completely breaks up and is hard to bat on. I prefer those pitches to out and out green tops.

Matting wickets were a totally different thing altogether and they used to be present in other parts of the world too IIRC

What a knock from AB. An absolute class...

Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq both are well set to take the duties of the Pak test middle order. They are technichally sound and have the right temprament to play test cricket. Too bad Umar Akmal couldn't find that kind of a temprament.

Misbah seems to have found some form which is a very good news, at least he can now justify his pick as a test batsman.

ABU BHABI: Talented Abu Dhabi-based pace bowler Abdul Haq has been invited by Pakistan Manager Intikhab Alam to the National Cricket Academy after an impressive display of fast bowling in the nets.

The 25-year-old six feet tall pacer hails from the Mir Ali region in Pakistan’s tribal region of South Waziristan and represents Abu Dhabi Gymkhana in the local league.
For his day job, Haq drives heavy-duty trucks for a construction company the emirate.
Haq impressed Pakistan coach Waqar Younis and assistant coach Aaqib Javed during the net sessions with Pakistan team before the second Test at the Shaikh Zayed Stadium.
“I am happy that I got the opportunity to bowl at Pakistan batsmen in the nets and clean bowled Misbah-ul-Haq, Imran Farhat and Adnan Akmal,” he told reporters and thanked Pakistan team officials for inviting him to Pakistan Cricket Board’s National Cricket Academy in Lahore.
“I had a great passion for the game and wanted to play at the top level. Who knows I may get a break for Pakistan,” Haq said.
The six feet tall fast bowler has only been playing 50-over matches in the United Arab Emirates’ A-division league and has not had the chance to play first-class level four-day matches.
Failing to earn a decent living in his native South Waziristan, Haq moved to Abu Dhabi for a change of fortunes.
“If I am lucky enough I may play for Pakistan.”

Well....you never know. At least he is not 30+ and if he has got the potential he still has a couple of years to learn more if he can.

Morne still bowling round the wicket, wtfness at its best.
