riaz is injured

look at guls record, its pretty average

now and again he can come up with the goods but when he is bad he can get tonked all over the place, like this innings, he is far too hot and cold for my liking, not a good enough return for all the faith the selectors have put in him.

when i say drop him what i really mean is give him a chance to iron out the kinks in his bowling, like inconsistent line and length, because there is something there
That might be worth considering, but the question is, have they got a better bowler ?

you will never know until you give another promising bowler a spell, if gul can get it why can't another?

the argument of "there is no other" is not plausible.

one place to start is for sami to change nationality so he is no longer a possibility 8-)

I can see where you are coming from, but I would not advocate dropping Umar Gul simply for the experience he brings to the table in the absence of Mohammad Aamir and Mohammad Asif. Mohammad Sami has to go; he is a very ordinary bowler. Wahab Riaz, Tanvir Ahmed and Umar Gul would make a decent pace attack.

ok true, he is more indispensable now given whats happened to amir/asif.

but still, pak need to develop more options, which is never a bad thing, otherwise you get stuck with sami.

If you can I'd like you to count the instances of umpiring decisions going in favor of each team so far. By my count its SA in the lead by some distance. The only instance I can think of atm in the whole series that SA can feel aggrieved about is Amla's.

AB survived a nick and a stone dead LBW appeal. Kallis survived an LBW appeal from Sami which was also plumb.

In the first match first innings I remember every decision going SA's way too. Smith survived many 50-50 LBW shouts (at least 3, and some could rightly argue that some of the shouts were more than 50-50). Petersen also survived an edge. Those are just some of the decisions I remember.
I was talking about the whole tour, not just the test series. Pakistan had quite a few going in their favour during the T20's and ODI's.

If we are talking about the test series only then Pakistan have had the worst of the umpiring. I can recall only three decisions that have gone in favour of Pakistan in the test series : Smith and Peterson were wrongly given out in the second innings of the first test and Hashim Amla was given out wrongly in this match. Everything else has gone in favour of South Africa.
Where is Sohail Tanvir?
Agreed. Pak have easily had the worst of the decisions in this test series. Quite a few going against them.

Botha going back to where it all began and is bowling seam...

Wicket seems better for batting today. Despite AB and the tail's resistance yesterday, the ball was doing a lot more in the air and off the wicket.

Also, Azhar Ali looks like a fine number 3 for Pak when they are batting in subcontinent like conditions.

Everyone's looked comfortable against the bowling on this pitch except the SA top order. They must be spewing for not cashing in.

Both attacks have looked impotent again save for the odd delivery.

Looks destined for another draw at this juncture. At least NZ/India should get a result this time.

Hasn't been bad, just innocuous. Such a waste of a seamer's place though when Tsotsobe, Theron and Parnell are left out.

After the impotence of Harris and Botha here, you'd imagine the selectors might start looking elsewhere for spin choices. Maybe someone like Tahir. Surely they should go with their strength which is the quicker men. Their attack always looks relatively pedestrian when they play both Harris and Botha.
