Lankans need a kick up tha back side to make them remember how they played long innings. That 6 fer from Mendis virtually ended chances of Senanayake, who was the best FC bowler in last two seasons in SL. We might bring back Malinga and Fernando. Sl basically needs four of there best bowlers because Mathews cannot bowl. PJ's that innings also have shut the curtain for Kaushal Silva's chances for a long time.

SL's best XI ATM is, Dilshan, Paranavithana, Sanga, MJ, Samaraweera, Mathews, Kaushal Silva, Randiv, Senanayake, Fernando, Malinga.

But knowing SL select suckers, they'll drop Randiv and bring in Herath. They'll retain Thushara and drop Prasad, or may bring back Welagedara who's totally out of form.

SL selectsuckers XI would be: DIlshan, Paranavithana, Sanga, MJ, Sam, Mathews, PJ, Herath, Thushara, Fernado, Mendis
Agree completely with this.

Windies clearly lacking that winning and killer instinct - No surprise they've lost it, but they should have been closer to winning than just a draw

However, this draw is clearly a positive result for WI

Roach is really improving as a bowler. If he stays fit and continues to bowl a lot I see no reason why his average shouldn't keep dropping.

Ideally, Sammy would be dropped and Nash made captain. That'd allow Benn to come back in the side along with Shilly.

Still have hope for Russell. Only his first test match and clearly dropped his head a little when things weren't going well. Don't think Sammy gave him much of a chance tbh either.

Muttiah Muralitharan is being sorely missed; the Sri Lankan attack does not look half as potent without him. One has to question the decision to rest Lasith Malinga. Sure, the World Cup is the most important tournament, but shouldn't test series be given more importance than the innumerable meanigless ODI's that Sri Lanka have played over the last two years ?

I actually understand the logic in resting Malinga. He just can't take many test matches on the trot. Against India he played one and missed the rest or something like that. Srilanka have a real big chance at the WC and him playing more ODIs this close to it make sense.

So we're minnows now?:p

The most important thing for both sides is backing this up. We've known for ages that WI, NZ and Pakistan can produce good stuff, they just don't do it consistently. That's what separates them from the top five. The days where none of their players would make top five sides are over. Australia for example, would kill for Jesse Ryder or Shivnarine Chanderpaul in their middle order.
 Sorry mate, is minnows a bit harsh ?

Yes you're absolutely right, we know these teams can compete with the best, but it's a case of how long for. With all due respect I expected NZ's resistance to have caved in, perhaps I under-estimated them.

The WI have gained much credit from this Test, but didn't quite manage to have enough penetration on that final day to get them over the line. Kemar Roach certainly has the tools to trouble any batsmen on any pitch, his full length takes the slow nature of the pitch out of the equation, like Shoaib in his prime, while Shillingford bowled some beauties, it was unlikely he'd run through the Sri Lankans.

We can't be too critical of Russell on debut. Bowlers such as Bravo and Sammy can be relied upon to do containing jobs, but they struggle on placid pitches with little happening off the pitch, but such penetrative bowlers are not easy to come by.

What a bloody shame!!...he was causing all sorts of problems and i believe him and Benn are the ones who could win us one of these Tests!!.. will be interesting to see if he's still in the starting line-up in the next few days!!, Sammy must be thanking someone up above right now 8-) .

If he's found guilty then we do have a replacement with great potential in Davandre Bishoo who has been a revalation of late, he's a leggy with a whole bunch of a tricks though rather than an off-break bowler like Shilly, i just hope Shane clears his name as he's been very good for us lately.

Windie, if you will recall, I always had concerns about Shilly being selected for tests before his action had been sorted out....

Bucknor had called him in domestic cricket some time ago.

Did Shillingford remodel his action after being called?

It was only a matter of time before he was to be detected at international level. His action doesn't look clean. His stock off-breaks looked ok in the 1st Test, and if he has to stop bowling his change up deliveries to avoid being reported then I don't think it will greatly diminish his effectiveness.

Shillingford's action had improved dramatically over the last few years. Indeed against Bangaldesh A his action was completely clean and he didn't bowl the doosra.

I believe the pressure of trying to get out top class batsmen at international level has caused him to regress and thus he has started chucking the doosra in too often and the umpires have quite rightly reported him.

I would be very surprised if he is worse than Ajmal or Botha though tbh. A number of people have spoken to me of the irony that a right arm off spinner should be reported for a suspect action in Sri Lanka of all places.

IMO test matches have never been that big in Sri Lanka. There has always been more focus on shorter formats I reckon.

As is the case with the resting of Lasith Malinga, which is a complete shame, because the major test of any cricketer is in Test cricket. Malinga has the tools to be effective in five-day cricket, but it appears he'll never be considered a decent bowler until he proves himself in this format, and rightly so.

Typical select suckers. FFS bring back Nuwan Zoysa. He would have been better than this dross they have been selecting.
