Couldn't agree more, cricketers from the past just don't respect individuality of a player, just because being a copy book batsman is considered to be the technically correct way to play, it doesn't mean its likely to work for everyone.

The opposite is armchair fans clinging to a players average as though it's the only way to judge a player.

That's what happening with Hughes: either you are in the 'zomg he averages over 50 in Test cricket' camp, or you are in the 'zomg the guy looks jumpy and can barely score on the leg side' camp. As usual, somewhere in the middle is the right answer.

ICC rankings say we're better, we hold the urn. Home advantage is certainly important, but I don't think it's massively out of the question to say England are the better side.

if you take swann and who ever Australia's spinner out and compare rest of the ten players Australia are ahed (easily on reputation,slightly on form) but when you put swann back along with what ever spinbowler Aus have,then England are ahed ever so slightly.

Didn't realise they'd done that. God, that sort of thing drives me ****ing nuts and shows that in some respects the game is still in the 19th century. It's even worse when they do that sort of thing with rain in the offing, but even without that, it's ****ing ridiculous

I could see England playing Tremlett in the 1st test, he offers that little bit more than Finn at the moment, especially since he's getting some reverse out there and his line and length has been immaculate.

I think Tremlett may come in for Jimmy (can't see him being successful in Aussie conditions)possibly for the 3rd test.

Ideally I would bring him in for Finn at Brisbane thought his bowling today on flat pitch was top notch had a great line and lengh, couple of good bouncers to keep the batsmen honest and little bit of movement both seam and a little reverse swing. Can't see the selectors doing that though looks like team was inked in before the 1st warm up game.

Quite pleased with Panesar's work in this game actually - took wickets in the 2nd dig to help England to victory and kept things tight in the 1st dig when the seamers were being rotated. Pretty good outing, exactly why I was happy with him coming on tour as Swann's back up.

Any prospect of him going with the Performance Squad to keep up his match sharpness?

I doubt it, the performance squad has two spinners already, and I'm sure he'll be fine with the rest of the team.
