Phil Jaques doesn't even make the team. It may not be as strong as some of the A sides from around 2000, when you had a batting lineup including Bevan, Blewett, Love, Law, Lehmann, Maher, Gilchrist, and bowlers like Kasprowicz, Bichel, etc.....but still a reasonably strong second string side.
I really can't fathom Steve Smith batting at 5 in our second best XI. In that team he would be the sixth bowler too. I like the rest of the XI assuming that everyone was fit.

Missed last nights play but watched the summary on Sky Sports News, Mark Butcher was saying that England got the ball reversing after about 35 overs and have done so in each of the tour games so far. Don't really associate the 1st choice bowling unit with reverse but hopefully they've learn't a new trick for the Aussie batsmen.

You obviously underestimate the skill required to make Bresnan look good whilst simultaneously making Shazad and Tremlett innocuous

Unfortunately, not even our talented youngsters have the ability to make Monty look anything other than what he is
Watching the highlights thought Monty bowled quite well Colly dropped sitter off Hughes and had Ferguson plumb LBW. On another day would have had 2 for not many.

Thought Monty bowled pretty well, he's allowing Strauss to rotate the quicks from the other end, there isn't much spin around but he's been very accurate. The Aussies have to be more aggressive against Panesar and try and get him out of the attack, otherwise it'll just play into England's hands and Strauss will be able to put men round the bat and hope Panesar can get one to bounce a bit more and turn sharply to being the close fielders into play. White and Hughes need to be attacking and get those fielders out of there, and Panesar out of the attack.

Bresnan impressed yesterday, he;s goin along with the theory of bowling wicket to wicket hoping for a bit of indifference bounce. At times he was easily worked through the legside, but he did a very decent job,

What I'm liking about all the tour games so far is that the bowling attack is getting the job done in a very efficient manner without any one individual turning in outstanding performances.

All the bowlers thus far have individually had decent tours, no more, but as a unit they've been excellent.

I dunno what game Butcher was watching then. Maybe an 05 re-run in a rain delay.

Some reverse going this morning, just tailing in nicely. Bresnan was fairly effective in Bangladesh getting some reverse, so no surprise he's getting a little.

Course it will. If we win this time I expect the excuseometer to exceed 2009, and that was already at record levels (only from some, it must be said, a lot of them were fairly graceful, don't care if Gelman was though because he's a ****)
We've learned from you lot. Fmd Poms come on here saying Atherton, Stewart and Hussein were > Hayden. He made more Ashes tons in one series than they did in their combined careers.

It's hilarious. You lot are the Henman of cricket. All these blow ins on here frothing over tour games. You're going to get towelled ffs.

Those of us who have been here more than three minutes know that its Broad who's called Ladyboy.

You've got one bowler who's bowled here before, and he averaged 80. Back your blokes all you like, but they have absolutely no reason to be ****y about their chances here.

Edit: how's your young one btw mate, is she on the mend?

Good knock by Hughes. Would love if he could somehow be part of this Ashes series, but really can't see it happening.

When he had just returned from stress fractures of the back, had played **** all cricket and was part of the same attack as Plunkett/Mahmood.
As if Anderson's previous record in Aus counts for jot, its about as relevant as the fact I took a dump this morning.
