Better than Vandork and Tharanga. Not saying much but he looks like he could score runs outside the subcontinent and he tore it up in South Africa on an A tour a few years back.
That I agree with. Better than that mubarak guy too.

Sammy appointment is even more shocking then Misbah at best he is a back up to Bravo.
Agreed, but who else is available? Gayle refused his contract, Sarwan's isn't seen as fit enough, Ramdin's out of favour, etc. Chanderpaul maybe, but he hasn't got that long.

Chanderpaul's a rubbish captain too. The only serious captaincy contenders weren't in the first eleven - it basically became a question of who out of Sammy and Ganga would be less of a passenger.

Sammy looks no Brearly I personally would have gone for Nash atleast he's a perma XI player.

All our batsmen have got starts and simply dont convert their 50's to 100's. Slightly frustrating mainly because its all the set batsmen who end up getting out.

Agree that Nash seemed like a candidate for captaincy although I have no idea if he has any credentials for the job.

yeah strange for a Lanka bat ususally once they are in they make you pay especially on their pitches.

Whatever happened to Michael Vandort? Last I saw him he wasn't terrible.
Yeah, I liked Vandort too. He was really inconsistent though. Looked to have a really good technique when he was in form, but had prolonged patches of being terrible.

Sammy is a complete waste of space imo and if the selectors have any sense at all he will be dropped, we could have such a good side if they use their heads for once, Sammy and Russell have clearly been the weak links in this test, i've got time for Russell but his action needs working on and he seems to have lost confidence the more the game has gone on which has lead to him being used less and less, and Sammy has done nothing with either bat or ball,

I agree that Nash should be skipper now cause at least he's a fixture in the team and he's a proper professional who gave up a lot to play for WI,

Now some thoughts on this test, i think Roach has come of age here and he's looking like a superstar!!, he's been absolutely brilliant and if he had more support we would have probably won this game, also Shilly looks fantastic, i can see him improving the more he plays,

Moving ahead we must be confident, we've been the better side and we'll have our best wicket taker of late (Benn) coming back to partner Shilly, plus i'm hoping Nelon Pascal will open the bowling with Roach, Nelon is possibly as fast as Roach (i.e hits 90mph regularly) and done ok on his debut against SA eariler this year,

In closing i believe if we keep up the hard work we can nick one of these last two tests!!, one thing that's encouraging is we've managed to take out their top four or five batsmen twice for under 240 runs or less, and i can only see our bowling unit getting better with Benn and Pascal involved!!.. so things should get interesting.

I'm starting to think I'm the only one who actually likes Darren Sammy. One of the most underrated LO bowlers the West Indies has, and with plenty of international experience, Sammy has proven himself as a captain at domestic level and is actually willing to stick with the national side ahead of T20 riches.

I don't mind Sammy in the ODI and T20 teams, by all means he can be a fixture in those sides, and he could even play in the test team if Dwayne Bravo is injured or off form, but right now he simply isn't contributing anything to this side and him being in the first eleven with Bravo is unbalancing things imo.

Lankans need a kick up tha back side to make them remember how they played long innings. That 6 fer from Mendis virtually ended chances of Senanayake, who was the best FC bowler in last two seasons in SL. We might bring back Malinga and Fernando. Sl basically needs four of there best bowlers because Mathews cannot bowl. PJ's that innings also have shut the curtain for Kaushal Silva's chances for a long time.

SL's best XI ATM is, Dilshan, Paranavithana, Sanga, MJ, Samaraweera, Mathews, Kaushal Silva, Randiv, Senanayake, Fernando, Malinga.

But knowing SL select suckers, they'll drop Randiv and bring in Herath. They'll retain Thushara and drop Prasad, or may bring back Welagedara who's totally out of form.

SL selectsuckers XI would be: DIlshan, Paranavithana, Sanga, MJ, Sam, Mathews, PJ, Herath, Thushara, Fernado, Mendis

He was such a soft **** for a huge man like his. Ideally should have been bullish like Hayden (mind you, they are same proportions and sizes). Can give the ball a fearful thwak, but chooses nudging and nurdling instead. He can extend the arms and go through the line but prefers to play late. Choose right arm off break bowling when could get the ball to the other and at Nuwan Zoysa's pace. IMO his best chance is to see a psychologist or whom that Samaraweera has seen. If he gets his attitude correct he'll be a very valuable addition to SL line up with the all round ability. SL needs a bully in their line up. Prasad is doing it a bit, but lacks talent for it. Vandort has the talent to bully, and that should be used.

All in all, a good performance by the Windies in the first test....

Benn should come in for the second Test in what is likely to be the only change - Benn for Russell.

I agree with most of this but I think you a being a little too kind to Nash. I don't think he's given up too much at all, he was struggling to make the QLD team, he owes West Indies Cricket heaps and I guess perhaps taking on the captain responsibility might be a good way to pay WI Cricket back.

I also agree that Benn or any decent second spinner would give the Windies more of a chance of winning matches.
