Gosh, the Pakistani fans in here seem more then happy with just a draw, but as you said showing some intent to push for the win could have been well worth the risk and if nothing would have send across a good positive message across to the Proteas for the rest of the series.
On an another note, haven't been following Pakistani cricket all that much in recent times, but what happened to Umar Akmal!? Wasn't he suppossed to be the next big thing in Pakistani cricket!?
Have to agree with you there. Quite negative cricket by Pakistan but it is understandable with their history of collapses. It takes just one wicket to go and the rest come tumbling down and that too within a handful of overs. On their day Pak can lose 7 to 8 wickets (or even all of them) within 10-15 overs. And they can do that consistently.

A pakistani young batsman and an India young seamer follow the same pattern.

Start off brightly the fan boys start salivating and then give them a massive **** you by doing jack all for rest off your career.

Umer Akmal I do rate as a talent but when he first came on the scene I did believe he was not yet ready and the honeymoon period will be over soon and his true test will be how he comes back from it. Also getting involved in all the politics with his brother has not helped one bit.

and massive props to Younis what a champ can't believe he missed 18 months of cricket because people like Kamran Akmal,Salman Butt and Shoaib malik refuse to play under him and then the PCB chairman blocked his entry since he did not give him an apology for a crime he never committed.

Also loving Azhar Ali not the most talented but a grafting test bat. I like a a grafter in my test match top 6.

Given that SA was only two down, you wonder if Kallis, Amla and the batsmen to follow could not have scored more quickly to give SA more time and more runs to play with.
More chance of getting Corrin to worship John Barnes than that, think of the potential risk to his average of getting out.

those who are criticizing Pak negative tactics should get a reality check the team has had atleast one collapse every inning no way was Younis,Misbah going to leave the game to walking wicket Umer Akmal and debutant Adnan who has a FC avg of 22.Had Aamer and kamran Akmal been there down the order they may have thought about it.

Anyways decent result for us stilll in the series:)
Well put...

The best way was to go for the draw imo given the type of collapses we have seen in chasing very small totals.

Very impressed by Azhar Ali...i think he should be a permanent pick for the side....good technique and super temperament for test cricket.

AWTA....always have advocated that Younis is one man who would never compromise his loyalty to the country. Irrespective of his batting which is still better then the 3 you mentioned by miles, just the mere fact that he puts the country first is reason enough for him to lead the team....

Precisely why you don't know why we are so happy with this draw.

It was a real comeback by Pakistan, outstanding stuff from Younis. I like Azhar Ali, he has some fight to him.

If you'd offered Pakistan the draw at the start of the match, or at the end of day 1 or 4, they'd have taken it in a second. They did the right thing.

The funny thing would have been if SA were to be cute and tease Pak with a run chase of lets say 380ish......a lot of posters thought the draw was kinda late and should have been with in that range of 380 - 400..

Just goes to show, Smith does occasionally know what he's talking about. With 150overs, a dead pitch, and Paul frigging Harris bowling, I wouldn't risk anything under 400.

What was the likelihood of the full 14 overs being bowled?

If there was no risk of bad light, this is a baffling decision I must admit.

not baffling at all...pak usually play these days to avoid loss, doesn't matter if they win it or not.....they don't want to lose it.........and had they lost one more wicket one might have seen one of their trademark collapses and then ppl would have asked as to what was the point of going after the total when there was not enough firepower or strength in the batting.

Eventhough I did not watch the game but I am told YK wanted it but Misbah was happy to shut up shop.I think it was justified had Umer been batting like last year with Kamran following they may have risked it but not with this line up also no Aamer who could hold an end if couple of wickets fall.

Well done Pakistan on saving the game.Though i must admit i thought they might have made more of an effort to win it after tea.Misbah could have gone for it and left the experienced Younis to block up an end and just rotate the strike.Make sure he was there at the end and they may have won the game with a bit of intent.Still it was a good draw from the position they found themselves in for much of the match.

Umar Akmal is one cricketer on whom my opinion has completely changed. Now, I almost wish he won't have a successful test career. Refusing to play for his country until his brother is in the team is just..wow. WAC.
