*Official* New Zealand in India 2010

I don't know about that. When players are in the mood Harb is now, even awesome bowling/captaincy can still fail.
Should have been able to get Sreesanth out though. Even if it was Tendulkar and not Harbhajan it still would've been **** captaincy and **** bowling.

Great fun batting by Harbhajan again.

In a strange way it might not be such a bad thing for NZ though as they could easily have been 30-3 tonight and struggling to save the game but they have a full day to bat tomorrow once they get the wicket in the morning and can play properly on what isn't a poor pitch.

But once one batsman (in this case Harb) is extremely confident and blasting the bowlers, it often transfers to the other one (in this case Sree) who then follows suite. There is way too much of a tendency IMO to blame bad captaincy or bad bowling for things like this. Sometimes these things just happen, and there is not much the bowling side can do about it.

The thing is New Zealand actually had a chance to push for victory in this test match, a real good chance. But they blew it, completely. The sad thing is draw or lose this test match will be seen as a positive because New Zealand were "close" at one stage.

Such a sad culture it must be said, no wonder half the country couldn't give a rats about this team.
Don't kid yourself, we were never going to beat India in this match. We just don't have the bowling to get them out in less than a day, even on a 5th day track. I agree that they blew it though, just like they did on the 2nd morning. Had we kept our heads about us, it would've been NZ with 450 and India bowled out for 350. Just a fine example of why we're ranked where we are in test cricket.

Vettori just pushing all the fielders back to the boundary and not even trying to get Harbhajan out is crazy. It's like he just doesn't know what to do once we get in front, he's so used to damage control. He has his moments as a captain, but this was not one of them. Terrible.

Well done to the baron of bull**** though. It's probably karma for all those tail end partnerships that the likes of Vettori and Nash gave us down the years.

Sreesanth was looking absolutely clueless against Southee though, who decided the best response to that would be to bowl everything inside his own half. Vettori responded by taking him out of the attack and bowling Ross Taylor.

It doesn't get much ****ter than that.

Yeah, but having India now so many runs ahead really does make it quite hard to push for a result. It's going to take New Zealand at least a session and a half just to make up the run difference for the first innings, then they have to get some sort of lead (rather quickly) and give themseleves enough time to bowl them out.

They don't have a chance imo.

It ****ing ruins my life supporting this team. There are no words. Captain Danspastic gives me new reasons to hate him every day. fml, **** these ****s, **** everything.

Yeah but what if Taylor got the wicket in his first over (as happens so many times when a part-timer is brought on)? Then people would be lauding Vettori's captaincy. Unless a side has an extremely fast bowler like Lee, when the tail is so confidence and swinging at every opportunity it's really hit and miss (excuse the pun) whether or not any particular bowler gets the wicket. Southee got bashed around a bit as well by Harb.

It kills me just watching a pretty good position slip away due to ******** captaincy. This is classic vettori for me, he has no idea when to attack unless it's obvious wickets are falling, and has no idea how to keep the foot on the throat when things are going his way. It'll be a sad day that he's out of the team, but Taylor at captain can't come soon enough for me. I'm sure that's blasphemy around these parts but I'm not enamoured with Vettori the captain. Vettori the player on the other hand is fantastic with ball and bat for us.

Sreesanth should have been long gone and we should have been awkwardly trying to get through to stumps one down.

Southee looked like getting Sreesanth out though. Pulling him just because he was getting hit by Harbhajan - who you yourself said was hitting everyone - was weak as piss.

"If it worked then it would have been a good idea" is not a convincing argument either. It was unlikely to work. If you disagree that's fine but deep down I don't think you do. :p

Arghhhhh. You should apply for a position on the support team, you'd probably fit in well.
Imagine Harby 150* with India 500+ tomorrow.

Seriously though, this was a very poor session but NZ have played well above expectations.

Taylor did rap up the tail in the last test, presumably Vettori was hoping for something similar. Still braindead.

That's not entirely true. it was a great session up until Ohja was run out. In fact, if someone had offered me India being 430/9 from 320/5, with Laxman still in and Dhoni looking not bad, I would've jumped at it. But for some reason we just seem to kneecap ourselves whenever we start to get our skates on. The same thing happens with our domestic sides too. No one in New Zealand cricket appears to know how to drive home the advantage when the opponent is on the back foot.

Harbhajan killing us again, so frustrating. Reminds me of what Gilchrist used to do when we had Australia somewhat in trouble at 5/6/7 wickets down, and then he adds another 100 runs or so with the tailenders. I guess with Gilchrist you just had to accept that he was such a wonderful player that he'd do that to you on a regular enough basis, but for Harbhajan to continually belt runs against us is just embarrassing.
