If SA was a fairy tale, then England was midnight.
What the Australian selectors did with him in England was just wrong, his much talked problems against the short ball are a bit blown out proportion for me.
I mean Hughes is only a pint sized bloke, who has played most of cricket with guys twice as big as him, so find it hard to believe he won't have coped a fair bit of short stuff through his grade and first class career, but that certainly didn't stop him from scoring the truckloads of runs he scored.

Would love to see CA establish a month-long window every season where the test players were available for shield games in the lead up to the tests

Not only does it rekindle interest in the fc game but its good for the players as well

In other news, RONALD WAFG

It might just be that he just hadn't faced the short stuff bowled by bowlers of the calibre of Flintoff.

Tassie game could be over quickly.. Bloody hell, what's the deck like there? 196 vs 4/71.

Has Hauritz played himself out of the Test side I wonder? Be a shame, could score some easy Pommie scalps and re-establish himself as NSW's number one spinner.

"Greentop" appears to be a stunning understatement for that deck, it seems.

Sids gets Hughes. Matter of time, one feels, he looked all kinds of dodgy out there.

Just prior to the Ashes, he shredded likes of Steyn, Morkel, Ntini, so not fair to say he hadn't face good bowlers before, also he averages 60 odd in FC cricket on largely bowler friendly pitches. The selectors should have backed a talent like him, and just because he got out to a few good balls, shouldn't have shaken the faith the selectors had shown in him.

Probably, but as I've said before, there's no better way to lose your test place in a real hurry if you're new on the scene than playing a short one badly.

Watson you tool. Slapping a short one straight to point.

Ponting was poo against spin for initial part of his career, Clarke & Hayden had their problems against the moving ball, Steve Waugh struggled against the short ball from time to time. None of these blokes were discarded because the selectors backed their talent, and frankly speaking in case of a match-winner like Hughes it shouldn't have been any different.

No, but none of that is quite the same. Didn't say it was logical, but it seems to be a massive no-no for the selectors - you must be good at the short ball early in your career.

Wishful thinking that in this day and age, CA would rather use such a window for the ''Big Bash League''!!

Yup, that only further goes onto show that current bunch of selectors are stupid morons!!
