Well both Watson and Clarke are in the squad for tomorrow. Surely that means they'll play?

Cricinfo says Katich and Bollinger are out of the Shield game, but still a very strong squad.

Hughes
Watson
Jaques
Clarke
Khawaja
Smith
Haddin
Hauritz
Clark
Copeland
Starc/Cameron

FMD that's a good team.

Reckon Copeland might miss out as the other two are in the Australia A team - the Australian selectors will put pressure on NSW to pick them. Unfortunate really as I think Copeland's certainly better than Starc at the moment.

Yeah, reckon you're right unfortunately, just hoping that NSW tell them to GAGF and pick Copeland anyway. Very unlikely to happen though.

Yeah. Shame that's not how Shield Cricket works though, it's hard for NSW to say GAGF like say a county side can.

O'Keefe good enough for Australia 'A' but not for NSW. Balls. Get belted Hauritz.

Don't really see why you're making a fuss over it tbh. The bloke who is playing ahead of him plays for "Australia". No matter what you think about Haurtiz it's pretty obvious why O'Keefe wasn't selected, and it's not because isn't good enough.

That New South Wales side (with Katich & Bollinger fit) is marginally better than the Australian test team at the moment IMO....dead serious.

No Hussey, North or Johnson. If NSW dropped Hauritz for O'Keefe the gap would be even greater.

I understand it. It still sucks.

"I believe we have a very competent replacement," the state coach Mickey Arthur said. "He is a genuine strike bowler who will shake up opposition batsmen, he is a capable batter himself who hits the ball a long way, and he is also great in the field, so he offers us the complete package."

Wow! So much love for Hauritz!!

Seriously, O'Keffe was a bloke who couldn't even get a game for the Blues, and now all of sudden, just on the basis of a few good games, he's all of sudden, better than Hauritz, who happens to have taken 29 test wkts @ 26 odd in Australia.

I know I shouldn't be jumping to conclusions, but I'm hesitant to give too much weight to Hauritz's performance against Pakistan last summer, given that it has since emerged that there may have been other factors at play in those two games where he took bags.

I know it's unfair on Hauritz to undermine his performances like that, especially when nothing has been proven....But some of his wickets in Sydney and Melbourne were from very dubious shots, even if there was nothing underhand going on as I'm suggesting, he still benefited from plenty of luck and poor batting...

Without the Pakistan series Hauritz's test career average is 39, which is probably a fairer indication of his abilities/the way he's bowled imo.

On O'Keefe, I know he's only managed to string a few good games together, but when (excluding the Pakistan series) has Hauritz managed to string a few good games together at first class level? In fact when has any other spinner in the country (besides Casson in 07/08) managed to do so? I'm not saying O'Keefe's a world-beater. But at this point in time he appears to be the best of a bad bunch.

Hauritz doesn't have an awesome test record or anything but he has been taking an average 3.5-4 wickets through his test career, so don't know how he is not stringing together good games.
Just because he is not a star its pretty easy to make him the scapegoat, of Australia's recent failures. He has delivered on most occasions and deserves some support.
Playing the game of musical chairs with the spin slot in the Australian team, definitely isn't going to take us anywhere.

Bit bloody rough on Copeland IMO

I know Starc is a very good prospect but his selection for this game absolutely wreaks of national interference

Rhino Harris currently smashing the Ashes Selection door off its hinges.

7 overs, 2 maidens, 2 for 9.

He will play at the Gabba, mark my words.

I truly hope so. Would be a far better than Siddle, and i'm a Siddle fan. Harris just knows how to bowl, same cant be said for almost all the other candidates, even Johnson.
