WTF? I like Michael Beer but that's ridiculous given O'Keefe's performance for Australia A in the winter and his performance with both bat and ball this summer for NSW.

Cool down PEWS.... shouldn't we be pretty used too, to ridiculous selections by now!!

Hold the horses, no need for an overreaction. It's just a partisan article pumping up a guy who did OK in a game. Doesn't have any quotes from a person with Australian connections.

National selector Greg Chappell was eager to watch Beer in action at Adelaide Oval. And he indicated to the WA camp that the spinner had shown enough to be considered for Australia A in the last match before the Ashes starts.

Definitely should not be considered.

Unfortunately, while Beer was taking wickets against England, O'Keefe couldn't get a wicket in a Futures League game for NSW.

The selectors will make sounds about who they like, and ask for certain players to be pushed, happens all the time. Funnily enough, you could argue that their taste for Holland contributed to Beer never getting a game in Victoria.

Took two in the first dig. I thought he bowled really well, steady line and length, turned the odd one sharply. Had two catches dropped off him aswell. And had a chat with me after.

The game will be remembered only for Warner's hitting regardless.

On a serious not, its crazy to see the way our selectors are operating, especially when it comes to picking spinners.
I wonder if there is any pecking order, for picking a spinner in Oz, its almost like anyone who takes couple of wickets, seems to gets considered.
If we're looking for backup for Hauritz, then what's wrong with Smith, Krezja, O'Keffe, but it seems they rather just pick a random name from the hat, then actually backing a few guys in particular.

Beer looks to have a nice action from what I saw on the highlights of the tour game.

Having said that, I still prefer the old system where unless you were young and seriously rapid (e.g. Lillee and Lee) you actually had to take a wicket or 2 before being considered

From an outside point of view it appears that any spinner who puts in a couple of good performances is suddenly regarded as a possible for the national side. That must be worrying for the fans to think that someone can be ordinary for many years then have a decent few weeks and all of a sudden the selectors think they are the answer to the problem.

They either need to stick with Hauritz and play him ala Giles as a stock bowler who can bat a bit or they need to invest time in a youngster and give him a chance to develop.Whether that is Smith,Beer,Doherty,Krejza etc.. is not for me to say as i don't know enough about them but the selectors need to make a decision and stick by it instead of looking like a bunch of buffoons as they do at present.

Personally i think Hauritz will play in the first couple of tests at least, probably all series but the fact so much confusion reigns at present can't be doing him much good.

I don't think that many of them are seriously being considered by the selectors. Like I said, this is just the media throwing out names

edit

Just like to add that WA media always promote and talk up their own players. It's pretty funny actually when you watch TV there

I see,a bit like the southern media in England hyping up every Surrey or Essex player that gets a hundred or takes a 5fer then.

The news focuses on the achievement of its own players more so than anything else. Marcus North is a regular mention

It's like their own country over there or something

Victorians seem fond of doing it as well.

NSW don't seem to do it as much... probably because they have a bloody test team as their first pick lineup anyway.

Don't hear a lot from QLD media so don't know about it.
