*Official* New Zealand in India 2010

Bhaji would give Dhoni a slap if he declared. Can't see anything but these two batting and batting. If the wicket was turning a mile, batting was impossible, India were losing the series, then I could understand a declaration but not here I can't.

India might declare out of pride tbh. Would be very embarrassing not to wipe the floor with us given how we've been rubbished (quite rightly) and they've been pumped up before this series.

They'll prepare a raging dustbowl next match. That's why we should have prepared the green tops last summer.

It's unfortunate if NZ don't clinch this, because I can't see them being pretty much on par with India again in the 2nd test. If you don't clinch the really close games, there seems to be a tendency to get beaten easily in the next match - just like Australia after Mohali.

No, that only comes out when India are losing.

New Zealand need to learn how to win. It's getting really frustrating seeing the foot taken off the throat time and again.

Nah, If we prepare a pitch extremely helpful to spin, ICC will be breathing down our neck for preparing unsporting pitches.

Yet, If one of the nations with good pacers prepare a very green seaming pitch, nothing happens.

NZ's batsmen look pretty competent against spin, and the less said about our spinners in recent times, the better. I don't see why we'd prepare a raging dustbowl given it usually also assists seamers and reverse swing. It'll be a normal Test match wicket.

NZ have done very well, fans are being too harsh on them for missing out on a possible winning opportunity... FFS, they have one and a half bowlers and have done a great job to put themselves in this position in the first place. And India still aren't entirely out of the woods.

Yeh, but at the same time, I don't know how soon India will declare. I don't think they would be happy until at least 250. I think they'll probably just give themselves a 'token' chance at bowling NZ out, without being overly aggressive. Tbh India probably consider themselves lucky to get out of this one...
Would agree - I was making the point I was making because in theory they should back themselves to put pressure on New Zealand even if they set them 215-220 in, say 50 overs, given all of the factors in their favour.

I have this horrible suspicion that Patel will be selected for the second test as well, even though he's been very average here.

The thing about Patel is that he doesn't even get through that many overs, partly because of his high econ rate. Vettori always bowls about twice as many as him. We might as well have a seamer.

Harbhajan to Patel "I'm going to miss ya buddy" Classic. Harbhajan for New Zealand selector imo.

Not too unhappy with a draw TBH considering our weak bowling attack and traditional batting fraility.

Could we have won with a different bowling lineup? Obviously hindsight Martin was well worth his spot.

Have to give props to NZ for the way they've played this match. Relieved to have got out of jail here.
