I'm sure India will give themselves a shot at bowling us out - I mean give them two sessions against a New Zealand batting line-up that, despite scoring well in the first innings, is always a bit shaky, has two number 11s and two players who haven't been able to bowl (not sure if thats going to affect Ryder at the batting crease but time will tell I guess). Plus you're at home, with the bowlers ranked 4 and 8 in test cricket on a fifth day pitch - and you're ranked number one in the world. If it were Australia at the beginning of the 2000's I know they'd back themselves...

I seriously doubt Dhoni will declare soon. Setting a target of around 210 in 50 odd overs would be madness with only a small chance of getting a win and a serious chance of New Zealand making the chase. He needs at least 250 to be safe and by that time the chances of bowling NZ will be minimal. Might as well play on and let Laxman and Bhajji get their hundreds if they can.

Yeh, but at the same time, I don't know how soon India will declare. I don't think they would be happy until at least 250. I think they'll probably just give themselves a 'token' chance at bowling NZ out, without being overly aggressive. Tbh India probably consider themselves lucky to get out of this one...

This is what he will do. People still talk about Sobers being a bad captain for that declaration he made against England. I don't think Dhoni will want to be remembered for losing a test through a sporting declaration.
