Well done Sri Lanka. Great landmark to achieve. The better team in the two games by a long long long way.
Not sure how they were the best team in the first game by a long long long way? Australia didn't bowl well to one partnership and that's it.

Thoroughly raped Australia in the second game though.

Drastic times call for drastic measures. My Ashes line up for the Gabba:

1. Watson
2. Katich (if injured, Hughes)
3. Ponting
4. Clarke
5. Khawaja
6. Smith
7. Haddin
8. Johnson
9. Hilfenhaus
10. Copeland
11. Bollinger
DWTA.

Watson
Katich (Jaques if injured)
Ponting
Khawaja
Clarke
Hussey
Haddin
Johnson
Hauritz
Hilfenhaus
Bollinger

Fast bowling attack looks good and I liked Hauritz last time he was on home soil. You need a spinner as well for things like over rates and with North out of the side, the spinner will get more overs.

I like Khawaja starting as close to the top as possible. I also think that Hussey deserves a couple more tests to bounce back. North has done too little too late.

The thing is that Bollinger and Hilfenhaus have both had nothing to do with the current ODI disasters and it is the middle order which has been slacking in our batting.

Sigh. Get so moody when Australia lose. And now I'm annoyed all the time!
Yeah it doesn't make your mood good for the Ashes coming up either. So many losses make you feel somewhat disinterested - hardly makes you feel pumped up for the series.

An excellent bowling performance by the Lankans so far in all the matches. Our batsmen were just stuck and could not get away.

I just feeling ****ing annoyed!

Still pumped for the ashes though. Such dumb scheduling by CA. No idea why this series is even on now.

I'd prefer 4 quicks. Don't think there is much need for a spinner at the Gabba. Plus I think Hauritz is mediocre (yet again proved so this ODI). Other than that I like your list, but its still a touch too conservative for my liking.

After so many losses, I feel the time is ripe for a new era of Aus cricket.

Yeh but you have to admit you'd feel more pumped if we hadn't had 7 (maybe 8) straight losses coming into it.

There has been a LOT of rain up here in Brisbane recently, but still, I am loathe to not have any legitimate spin options, particularly with Watson in the side.

Dropping two batsmen is tough on the team. You can still drop Hussey if he fails in the first two tests. Despite his recent hundred, I feel that North really has to go. He's not a young prospect, has a very mediocre record after a lot of tests and really is just stopping a player like Smith or Khawaja from getting vital experience early in their careers.

Why Australian cricket is in crisis | The Daily Telegraph

I really am starting to get sick and tired of the Australian media and hence those sections of the public who buy it now.

The batting unit is having issues with consistency, the bowling unit is struggling to land balls in the right spot, and what's your concern

Whether players are popular or not with a bunch of ****ing bogans!

I don't care what car Michael Clarke drives. I don't care who his girlfriend is. I don't give a **** what a drunken yobbo like Symonds (I suppose that's what makes him relatable) thinks. I don't care what they look like. Lastly I don't ****ing care how many people are on the goddamn board But this lot think it's more important that taking wickets and scoring runs.

Congratulations Sri Lanka! Nothing should take away from this victory - Duckworth Lewis, injuries or the upcoming Ashes - because the first series win in Australia is a sweet feeling. I thoroughly enjoyed India's CB series win in 2008.

I agree with whoever posted that the green kits are a bad omen for Australia in ODIs. Look ***y though.

But seriously Hussey has been in poor, poor form for so long now (3 years for gods sake!). I'd love for him to bounce back one more time, but I just can't see it happening. He has to go, and soon.

I agree with you about North, but the main reason I wouldn't want to drop him (assuming there were 4 quicks), is because of his useful bowling. Smith as of now, is still a pretty poor bowler. But nevertheless I think Smith, Clarke and Katich could easily take care of over-rates and a bit of variety etc. Hauritz just isn't potent enough to be of good use to the team IMO.

Doesn't mean we will start winning all of a sudden by selecting young players.
What makes you think we are going to win by keeping players who have consistenly lost games for us? We have tried this approach for years now, and it has failed time and time again.
