I reckon he's one century away myself. Once he gets a hundred again, stops throwing it away in the 60's and 70's... boy, watch out.

Ponting hitting the ball on the up is also a fairly important sign. That was a great shot.

Wasn't far out on the target.:)

Aus needs one of these two to get a biggy today and ease the pressure on the rest particularly Clarke who seems to cop flak in the shorter game no matter what he does.

Doherty and Siddle might've been in club cricket as well...
Siddle was only there (if he was there at all?) to recover from injury which is a bit different. You're spot on with Doherty though - was left out of First Class cricket until very late last season.

For once I agree with the DL total, SL had lots in the shed and were looking good to post a decent total before the rain hit again.

Honestly, that catch of Haddin's they showed off Salman Butt in the Sydney test last year is about as good a catch as a keeper can take standing back. footwork, full stretch.. Just a great, great catch.

Yeah he's looking quite serene, actually. Looked great in India too. Reckon he's so damn close to having another monster run with the bat.
Yeh I want to stop myself getting too excited though, just in case he fails. Another period of Ponting at his best would indeed be glorious.

Think this slow, wet outfield is going to hurt us here.

The way I look at it is this; Ponting's already an all-time Aussie great, one of the best to ever play the game. Yet he's still putting in massive work to not only get fit but to just be a better batsman. A bloke already at that level, no way is he going to put in like that and fail over the long-term. Eventually he'll really hit his stride again.

EDIT: Darn.

I dunno though, there is only so much determination can make you succeed. Who knows his style of play, with heavy use of pulls and hooks etc., might just not be conducive to older age and the inevitable deterioration of reflexes...

Fair in general. Looks whip-quick right now, very positive movement in general. I think it's a matter of time. We'll see. :)

Perera is the pie chucker with the golden arm.
I've been saying this throughout the whole thread. He's taken 13 wickets in his last 3 matches - 14 in 4 now with still most of a spell still to bowl. Nuwan was called a club bowler in this thread .. well I reckon Perera fits the title more and I don't even think he'd feature in the top 20 wicket takers of Sydney first grade. Yet he keeps getting batsmen out in ODIs. It's actually really annoying me now. :p

Kumar - "Thisara Perera again, he seems to be able to pick up five-fors and wickets in one-dayers when you don't think that he can."

clarke to make 70 odd off 150ish balls as we slowly lose the game
Currently striking at 9 ( edit now 15!!!), man we are screwed. Was watching some old Clarke today from 04/05 v Pak and WI, he opened that summer in the one dayers and absolutely smashed em, pull shots for 6 through mid on, slapping cover drives over the top, completely different player now. :(
