I said he was being unfairly pilloried and he promptly gets slaughtered on here.
I don't think North's average will drop further. I think it will approach the 40 mark and probably start flat lining around there. Having a low 40's batsman in our side really shouldn't be a problem if Hussey is taken care off. I mean FFS having only one of the top 6 who averages low 40s (assuming Watson will lift his average eventually) is not that bad. Practically all of England's top 6. is made of low 40's batsman. I agree that there are definately more promising options than North, but given the situation we are in now he is no way near the worst option. Smith and Khawaja etc. look promising now, but who knows they might end up averaging low 40s as well. Other than the few young guys, most of the other potential options (Ferguson, Klinger etc.) have even worse FC averages than North.I refuse to accept that the Australian test team has sunk to levels where an average of 37 is good enough. We have players knocking down doors trying to get into the team. It's time to get rid of repetitive failures. Honestly, North wouldn't even make 12th man for a full strength NSW XI. He has a terrible technique early on and his average will only go further south, dragging Australian cricket along with it
Blewett averaged more than North in FC cricket tbf.
NSW are a test quality FC team though. He'd make it into several other FC teams no sweat I imagine. He already gets into one at least, because he wasn't plucked from first grade. Not sure how its flawed just because NSW (as it should be) is extremely strong.
Isn't it telling that North wouldn't even be able to secure a spot in a FC team
I don't see why you'd be willing to lower our standards just because another nation is comprised mainly of low 40's batsmen.I don't think North's average will drop further. Because I'm saying that even for a team like England (which are frankly not much worse than Australia batting wise) cope well with low 40's batsmen. And I'm just talking about 1 at no.6, not the whole team.I don't see why you'd be willing to lower our standards just because another nation is comprised mainly of low 40's batsmen.
Khawaja already averages 10 more than North. Either the domestic standard in shield matches has completely fallen away (which it hasn't) or its pretty clear that North is not the best available.
His technique is absolutely horrible early on, and I for one, will wager that his average will never get to 40.
While the cupboard isn't overfilling with batsmen at the moment, there are suitable replacements for North and Hussey waiting right now - It's highly unlikely he'll ever average 40.Because I'm saying that even for a team like England (which are frankly not much worse than Australia batting wise) cope well with low 40's batsmen. I already agreed that North isn't the best option, but I think for the no. 6 position he would probably be in the top 5, maybe even less. Khawaja, Smith, D Hussey and maybe Ben Rohrer are better options than North. Other than that you have openers like Hughes which aren't really appropriate. Klinger and Ferguson are probably worse options than North.
Thats another thing though, you look at the few possible replacements for North, and many of them will be needed for the team soon in other positions. Katich will soon need to be replaced by Hughes, and Hussey by Khawaja etc. As you say, the options aren't exactly overflowing atm, and thats the main reason why North shouldn't be being bagged so much - because he is far from the worst option. While the cupboard isn't overfilling with batsmen at the moment, there are suitable replacements for North and Hussey waiting right now - It's highly unlikely he'll ever average 40.
Not an exaggeration at all when it comes to the general public. He's such a generally not-very-interesting average sort of guy off the field (his press conferences are only livened up by a count of the number of times 'disapppointing' is used) and in his demeanour that you wonder what he's done to get some of the bizarrely extreme reactions he generates. I can only put it down to appearance.Fairly certain this thread was made for Michael Clarke. Bloke could ton up, take a 5-fer, effect a run-out, take a blinder (all in the 1 game), and people would still criticise him because he didn't do it whilst playing waltzing matilda out of his arse.
Ok so maybe a little exaggerated but you get the point.
He's perhaps the most talented Indian bowler after Zaheer currently, doesn't mean he's a gun though, yeah. Thought you said he aint talented. Mayb just that I didn't get the gist of it.Lol, where did I say he's not put in good performances? Linking me to a 2006 scorecard is ludicrous. I'll link to Irfan Pathan actually doing something in cricket as well.
Fast bowlers have to actually do something more than once every 3 years before being called a gun.
This. Cannot stand the guy.Robin Uthappa. Nah, **** it, deserves all he gets.
He didn't say he wasn't talented. Just that everyone uses "talent" as an excuse for him when he bowls horse manure for the 19th spell in his last 20.He's perhaps the most talented Indian bowler after Zaheer currently, doesn't mean he's a gun though, yeah. Don't think that's true in tests.Fairly certain this thread was made for Michael Clarke. Bloke could ton up, take a 5-fer, effect a run-out, take a blinder (all in the 1 game), and people would still criticise him because he didn't do it whilst playing waltzing matilda out of his arse.

Just don't like him. Too many air-headed interviews and empty quotes. Fat ugly slogger, though he does have the ability to strike a clean ball when he gets going. Why? ^
Thirded or 39487293487ded..This. Cannot stand the guy.
