CBF devoting a thread to the tosspot, so I'll post this here.

Shoaib Akthar is apparently out of the Australian tour because he's - get this - had liposuction.

Yep.

Instead of working hard, getting fit and doing the sorts of things that might get him back to bowling fitness, Shoaib apparently decided to lose the extra weight by having it sucked out of his Cammy Cuts. Well done him.

The liposuction to his brain was so effective, he evidently thought he'd try it elsewhere.

Has anyone heard whether this is true? I'd heard it on the radio this morning but don't know if it'sbeen verified.

Edit: there is a report but it's Fox Sports, so it's very likely wrong:

Just further confirming to me that he is the greatest man in cricket history.

 His biography would be so hilarious.

Yes to the first - erratic and inconsistent he may be, but to call him "the worst bowler ever to take 200 wickets" (when he does) is a bit harsh I would say. He's better than, say, Vettori, who is the one who immediately comes to mind simply because he's playing, well, now.

Yes to the second. Don't need to explain. Apparently he's only a good captain if he sets umbrella fields during powerplays...

Marcus North probably doesn't deserve a lot of the personal stuff he cops, from me included. Seems a reasonable, nice chap and once he gets past 20-30 is a very good player. He's just not the kind of player we need right now.

Athlai

Not Terrible
That's pretty much what I tend to refer to (I tend to say early-1990s onwards - a good exact starting-point if one is needed is the 1991/92 World Cup). Though nonetheless there were still plenty of players who could crack Tests and not ODIs (or at least not to anywhere near the same extent) in the 1970s and 1980s.

Some examples:

Test >>>>>> ODI:

Plus there's some (Jean-Paul Duminy, Jesse Ryder, Matthew Prior, Hashim Amla, Mohammad Asif, Dale Steyn, Umar Gul, Paul Harris, Ben Hilfenhaus, Monty Panesar) who I strongly suspect will be added to that group in due course.

ODI >>>>>>> Test:

Those I suspect will be added in due course: Ross Taylor, Mahendra Dhoni, Martin Guptill, Grant Elliott, Salman Butt, Nuwan Kulasekara

So, as you can see, there are a great many who were\are notably better at one format than the other - either decent-to-good at Tests and outstanding at ODIs (or vice-versa) or good-to-excellent at Tests and hopeless at ODIs (or vice-versa). In fact I'd not be at all surprised if this number exceeded those who could be classed as "pretty good to excellent at both".
Worst calls

Ravindra Jadeja is without any doubt one of the best 4 ODI bowlers in the country, IMHO. Very unfairly criticized.

Sreesanth, Mitchell Johnson(in Test matches) and Thilan Samaraweera unfairly criticized as well.

People would not criticise Sree if you actually explained why he's any good. Not talented, actually an effective bowler.
