*Official* New Zealand in India 2010

Pretty **** day for us then, but that was to be expected. What pisses me off though is the fact that we just don't help ourselves at all. Firstly, our selection was utterly ridiculous; and secondly, our fielding has been rubbish. Was it five dropped catches, or four?
Should put Ryan Nelsen in the team tbh

My god NZ are still picking Chris Martin. What is he a specialist number 12 batsman? 35+ average and when you take his batting and fielding into account, more like a 40+ average.

So is Chris Martin playing to try and make Patel look less ****, or is Patel playing to try and make Chris Martin look less ****?

I do like to laugh at NZ, but this is just getting pathetic now. It's like when Cecil got turned down in favour of Sideshow Bob. It's only funny when the sap's got dignity. NZ need to get back to some basics and make themselves tough to bowl out. If you're restricted to mediocre bowlers at least have young mediocre bowlers who can bat and might improve.

The ICC need to do something about this runner business. Sehwag shouldn't have one. He's not injured - he's just old and tired. Running if part of cricket, unless you're injured and can't should be no runners.
AWTA. Discomfort? WTF is that?

Also, NZ have a real chance to keep India under 400 or 450. There could be a collapse easy if they bowl well tomorrow.

saw quite a lot of play, the day went as expected. patel is not test standard and should never play again. bennett huffed and puffed a bit, martin looks on his last legs danny bowled well, a class test bowler.

I agree with most of the post, but I don't follow the logic that because the bowling sucks we should work on the batting?

Not much more we can do for the batting anyway. Taylor, Ryder, Williamson and Vettori are now all playing. All we can do is wait for the likes of Raval and Brodie to get a few more FC games under their belts while hoping the McIntosh's, McCullum's etc can make a decent fist of things in the mean time.

Bowling is likewise, except we're shooting ourselves in the foot by leaving out guys who are better than the current bowlers and as you said, can hold a bat. Ryder is Wellington's sixth bowler yet here he is at first change for his country. It's crazy.

8 test innings in a row where Ghambir has scored 25 or less now in 2010

He'd want to cash in this series because SA in SA will not suit him and he could very quickly find himself out of the team

I don't see India taking 20 wickets tbh....
Particularly on this track. The only time the Indian spinners have looked remotely threatening in 2010 is when the pitch breaks down and becomes spin-friendly in the 4th and 5th days. This track looks like it'll stay slow and flat all five days. Zaheer is due a bad match too.

So I take it that means for no apparent reason?
Pretty much. Bowled well on a flat pitch in his previous test but Martin and Bennett are now the best seamers in the country apparently. And Ryder, since he's practically third seamer in this test. Jesse Wellington's 6th bowler Ryder (though a gun golden arm).

Martin was always going to play, and fair enough promoting Bennett since he has some serious talent, but it's like they didn't watch the Australian series. An ordinary offspinner like Patel was always going to get the treatment he got. Even if they wanted two specialist spinners, they should have allowed for the third seamer by dropping a batsman (Watling most likely) because Bennett is a short spell strike bowler.

It is quite funny that full strength Auckland and Northern Districts bowling line ups are stronger than our test one though. As an NZ fan we need to find something to laugh about.:(

But does this Kiwi batting lineup needs good bowling to get all-out twice?

Slow and low will account for us. This pitch is benign but you do have to work for your runs. I'm telling ya, our lot will hole out to lofted drives straight to fielders inside the circle. Most of them don't know how to bat in the subcontinent.
