*Official* Sri Lanka in Australia 2010

It's not even like Hussey's innings has been the transition from out-of-form to in form, where he was all over the shop to begin with but ended in style, like Clarke did a week ago. It's just been a long, drawn-out struggle.
Yeh agreed. Mediocre at best. 1 boundary just doesn't cut it in ODIs.

I don't have too many issues with the way Hussey batted. He creamed a number of cover drives that would be a boundary on any ground in the world other than a wet MCG outfield.

Very poor effort overall by Australia though, middle order collapses are simply dire.

Criticism for Hussey's knock a bit over the top IMO. Obviously he probably could've scored faster, but it's not like Clarke's ton against India where we still had plenty of wickets in hand; he's had wickets crumbling all around him and it's clear that without his innings, Australia would be ****ed.

I know it'll go down at more-than-a-run-a-ball 16, but every single shot Hastings played was absolute piss.

I still can't believe Perera took five. All bar the last one were genuine wickets too. He's taken 13 wickets in his last three games - that's insane for such a piechucker. Should probably stop bagging him. :p

Yeah, Hussey did good today. Australian grounds can be hard to maintain a 100+ SR on unless you're Symonds. Tendulkar's SR in Australia is in the 70s.

We needed it but an indicator of a return to form this is not.

That's more due to the bowling than the grounds though, and the fact that he's been playing ODIs since the dawn of the time when strike rates were much lower across the board.

Would be interesting to see a comparison of SR's across various countries in ODI cricket.

A positive is that Haddin is definitely ready to return to the fold and Clarke looks in very good nick now. His last shot aside, his footwork was extra sharp today.

The samples would be terribly tainted by the bowling attacks of the home teams though.
Yeah.. that's true. But we get a decent amount of ODI's in Australia every year (upto 2008) not involving the home team, so maybe that would be a fairer indication?

EDIT : Think we can include all matches actually, Australian batting lineups taking some poor visiting bowlers to the cleaners would balance things out nicely. :p

Yeh without his knock Aus could have been in serious ****, but at the same time, it could have been a lot better. I have a feeling even if Australia were under no pressure at all, Hussey would have scored exactly the same. Its just the way he is playing at the moment, because he is out of form. So many of those singles looked like attempted boundaries.

The situation Aus is in now is very similiar to the Indian ODI. Clarke scored too slowly on a good wicket, and not suprisingly we lost. Hussey could have also scored a lot quicker (if he was in better form, and more of his singles went for boundaries), and it looks like Aus will lose this. Huss said himself at the end he wasn't that happy with his knock, and the pitch was good for batting.

Mitchell Johnson as an opening bowler - oh joy. Siddle isn't really suited to it either and JWH definitely isn't, so we've basically picked zero opening bowlers here.
