Retaining anyone who averages in the 30s after a big sample of Test (he's played over 20 games now) would be a sad indictment on how far our standards have slipped. The 30s.

That's the beauty with death riding North - you can actually use his centuries against him  that they're a precursor to a string of failures. He embodies everything I hate about our current selection panel.

Though I suspect the fake Hilditch quote logic will shine through, I remember reading an article were he was suggesting the training and practice wasn't too much important for our batsman as the being in a good place mentally, so I'm sure instead they'll just give Hussey a big ol rest after the one dayers.

See how far we've slipped.

A string of intelligent guys actually believed that quote.

It says something about the tosh we've come to accept as standard issue.

No. Give me the guy that can score runs when it matters and regularly gets at least 40 odd without failing 5 times inbetween
well i'm just presuming they won't have the balls to drop both of them so i'm choosing sides.

It's for the boxing day test tbf. Going down to Melbourne to watch it

I'd be happy to be forced to wear a dress and eat humble pie if North was to succeed and we win the Ashes. The fact is he won't. He'll score some runs at Adelaide and that's it.

He has to have one of the worst records in the past decade for an Australian batsmen with this many tests under his belt.

Looking at his stats makes me feel like we're in a time machine going back to the 1980s when many, many guys played 20+ Tests with averages in the 30s.

People should be as mad as hell with this panel. :@:@

Hughes, the last Aus bat dropped on form... considered a liability in the Ashes...

On a different note, its good to see George bowling well here, he was very under bowled in the first innings, hopefully he can get a 5-fer.

Wow, NSW absolutely destroyed QLD. I deafinitely agree with everybody else on here who think Cameron is an awsome bowler, I just hope he doesn't get injured and keeps playing. The QLD first class batting line-up is pretty average it has to be said, probably the worst competition actually. Copeland and Khawaja played great too, Coyte and the NSW middle order were solid also.

SA can atleast walk away with first innings points in their game against WA. The bowling has been decent without being too threatening, there has been a fair few chances gone begging as well. Apparently North was plumb LBW to a George inswinger when he was on nought.. Marsh and Ferguson doing all they can do be in contention for an ashes spot, let's hope they both have that 800+ run season. I guess it's good to see North scoring runs though.

George is bowling well which is great to see but I really think Edmondson should be in the team ahead of Duval as Edmondson is clearly a better bowler. If Cassell doesn't take any wickets in the next few games then play both Edmondson and Duval, If the SACA are that smart..

Hussey should be droped for mine.

I agree that the selectors have ****ed up big time, in that they chose North in the first place and let him stay on way too long. But at the same time, seeing as though the next test series is actually the Ashes, making too many changes would be suicide. The way I see it is, while there are undoubtedly better players than North out there for the no. 6 role, he is still one of the better candidates for that position. There are suprisingly few domestic batsman who average as good as North in FC cricket. And if you take out openers (Jaques, Rogers, Hughes etc.) the options are even less. Look at some of the top candidates for the role: you have Ferguson, Klinger etc. who don't even average 40, let alone 43 + like North. Considering the ridiculous lead up to the Ashes, I think the best bet would be to retain North for now (especially seeing as though he is scoring runs) and replace Hussey with Khawaja. If Khawaja is successful, the erratic nature of North's run scoring should be less of a problem (because there would be less chance of a massive collapse). Post Ashes I say Smith should eventually replace North.

Over 14.6: George to North, no run, inswinger, forward and looks to be dead in front - a massive shout by the Redbacks - not out the call - looked plumb from here.

Btw can anyone tell me who the bowler in the no. 48 shirt is for QLD, at around the 1:00 mark, in the following video:

Home | Cricket NSW

The video is the Day 1 highlights of the QLD/NSW match. Its the player who bowls someone with a very impressive looking yorker.

I just hope the selectors sense that Hussey needs to prove himself, you can just feel that the pressures on him now, he'll save a match in the one dayers & the selectors will go with that as his coming to form.

The other point about Hussey is he's miles away from being the commanding player he used to be before his slump began late 2008. Ever since then his only method is to grind grind grind, now that in itself isnt wrong, its just he's kind of bad at it! 20 off 100 balls is his usual innings, its like he's lost all his scoring shots. He aint young, the middle order is being bogged down with Clarke too being a very slow scorer. And i'm not sure Huss has scored runs when it matters for quite some time, a lot longer than it should be for a senior player.
We're talking about tests here?
