I am waiting for one of the non-sc teams to tour SL.Mendis has played all his tests so far against Ind and Pak hasn't he?He will def be very effective against Aus,sa,eng,nz at home.

I'll be very honest and say probably one of the reasons I picked Clarke over Amla is that I've missed watching all of Amla's big innings in recent times...

KP is nowhere near the highest class of spin-playing batsman. Averaging 50 against Warne over two series in the span of 15 months is awesome obv., but doesn't really mean too much to me while analyzing a batsman's ability against spin, particularly when he keeps having moments of brainlessness against spin.

Kallis the best, atm IMHO. Ken Barrington, of the past, was special too. Every member of the Indian spin quartet rated him the best they've bowled to IIRC.

Played one test against NZ in Sri Lanka and was pretty ineffective. 3 wickets at 45. We were screwed over by the quicks in that tour (ironically enough).

KP's numbers in the sc(minus b'desh)

692 runs in 21 innings(11 games)@34.6 with 2 tons.

The sample is not a large one though, the numbers would be more useful after he plays another 15 tests in ind,sl,pak.

yeah.. that is not really strange though. I always rated him as an ODI bowler... It is a bit like Giles Vs Sachin, Lara too..
The fact that he managed to tie him down a bit wasn't of a huge surprise as Utseya is really hard to get away when he's bowling well, but he beat the outside of the bat when Lara was defending quite a few times, which really did surprise me given he struggles to take wickets even in the Logan Cup.

Whatever it takes!!!

But honestly, that could mean anything.. For all this talk about Lara's record Vs Kumble, let us not forget he batted out a draw with Kumble on a 5th day pitch which was not exactly easy to bat on... Thing is, I feel it was more of an off day for Lara than anything special from Utseya much as I love him.. :)

I think, speaking more generally, Lara and Sachin seemed to do much better against attacking spinners than they did against defensive spinners..

yeah wonder how a Sehwag would rank there.. And also how exactly would have an Azhar gone against a Murali with the doosra.

Haha yeah I wasn't saying it meant anything in terms of Lara's ability to play spin; I was just mentioning it as one of those odd things.

Yeah think a lot of those players benefitted from having to play Murali without the Doosra. Thorpe struggled against Murali in his first series against Murali with the doosra. Certainly can't say that Im not a bit surprised that Sehwag and Lehmann arent in that list.

Am I correct in saying SL hasn't played as much Test matches in recent years? Certainly don't remember many against us, only 2. Otherwise you might see more of your Pontings, Clarkes and Sehwags in there.
