At least we won the spirit of cricket award.....

Utter embarrassment. They're a disgrace to New Zealand. They played with no heart what so ever.

At times like this, I suppose all you can do is laugh.

There appears to be a real mental deficiency with the batting atm. Again today, McCullum, Watling, Williamson, Vettori (especially), N McCullum and in the end even Elliot all tossed their wickets away. Ryder and Taylor both got good ones, but even then, they played them awfully. That's now 11 games without either succesfully chasing a target or batting a full 50 overs, had we conserved wickets and played sensibly we would've won easily. I'll reserve final judgement for the series in India, but unless there's a Lazarus style comeback, I think heads will have to roll.

Vettori can't be the captain/coach anymore. He looks overburdened enough just trying to prop the team up on the field. I feel sorry for Greatbatch, as I don't think this is entirely his fault. But it can't be denied that its only since he came on board that the ODI batting started to go to hell in a handbasket. His contract probably extends through until after the World Cup, and after the Moles debacle I really don't think NZC can afford to dump him until his term runs out. But unless there's drastic improvement next month, then they need to start scoping for a replacement immediately, and actually name a good one this time (preferably an Australian/South African, as we really need an attitude shift).

I know that not too many high profile coaches are going to be keen to touch the BC's at the moment, but hopefully some will know that after a 4-0 loss to Bangladesh, pretty much any kind of result will look good in comparison. And it needs to be a strong coach, someone who'll take charge ala Steve Rixon or John Bracewell (yes I know everyone here hates JB, but at least he managed to get results in ODI's).

As for players, I don't know who would be dropped and who would be selected. McCullum, Ryder and Taylor are all essential proven players, and there's no one close to their ability floating around in domestic cricket. Grant started to look like he was getting his groove back towards the end of the series, so he deserves another go against India. Vettori, as has been pointed out, shouldn't be batting at 6. Ideally he'd still be coming in at 8, but I get the feeling that he's starting to believe that he needs to be up the order, so it might be hard to convince him to slot back down. Watling looks like he doesn't have what it takes tbh, and will probably be replaced with Jamie How for the Indian series. Otherwise, the cupboard looks bare.

Positives from this series? Williamson looked the goods in game 3, though his awful shot to get out today leads me to suspect he's not yet ready for a spot in the top 3, and when Styris comes back into the team he'll probably cycle back out.

The bowling generally did well (with the exception of game 2). In no game did Bangladesh post really imposing totals, and we dismissed them inside 50 overs on 3 out of 4 occasions. However, the Bangladeshi batting is still a weak outfit, and we shouldn't really have expected anything less. I'm still far form convinced regarding McKay, even if he has only played I think 3 games against non-Bangladesh opposition. Mills will do his best, Danny looks same old, and hopefully Oram will also be able to provide a stabilising influence on the attack when (if) he gets back.
