*Official* Australia in India 2010

I think the record run chases in India aren't true indicators of difficulty in present times.

The wickets in India have changed pretty recently, to be far more batsmen friendly. That being said, I think Aus made their second innings look far more difficult than it really should have been. India are showing how playable the wicket still is.
The difference between the Indian Innings and the Australian one is India had better spinners plus more useful exponents of Revers swing in their fast bowlers compared to australia.

Added to that India play spin better than Australia.

Warne on Ponting's fields for Hauritz:

"How the hell can hauritz bowl to this field??" Warne tweeted. "Feeling for hauritz , terrible!! What are these tactics? Sorry Ricky but what are you doing."

At times Hauritz had a field with a deep point, long-on and long-off, while also having a slip, short-leg and leg slip. In his first over Hauritz went for 12, with Cheteshwar Pujara off-driving two boundaries, and there was a cover drive to the boundary from M Vijay in the second.

"With the wicket up and down and spinning big, tactics and backing bowler [are] crucial," an earlier tweet said. "Pressure on Ponting and Australian bowlers."

Not tjhe first time so it'll be interesting to see whether the selector bite the bullet or keep their heads in the sand

I'm betting on the latter
When saying that, at least add who you think should be dropped and included in their place. The obvious one is maybe Steve Smith for Hauritz, but I think that is a call really only the guys who are facing both of them in the nets can make.

If Swann has another year like this one then Swann > MacGill, but things can change pretty quickly for spinners.

Well, not sure North should keep his place either. Even with his century he is averaging in the 30s for this series. And he isn't even averaging 40 overall. This guy has 9 lives.

Australian plummet to 5th in the Test rankings.

Don't change the team, don't change the selectors.

It's all good. Mediocrity is fine.

It doesn't matter mate - he is a 'steady character'.

Yeh no chance sig changes (if any) are going to be made with the Ashes so close. The Aus selectors really ****ed up and left things way too late to make adjustments. Conservatism is perfect if you happen to have a team full of consistent players, but when half the team is incapable of performing when needed, it is a death wish.

Australia are going to be ranked no. 5 now in the world, so I think it still would be the perfect time to make massive changes to the batting line up. Seriously what do they have to lose? If they keep the line up as is, failure like in this test will arise again and again and again. Conversely, if they change the line up the worst that can happen is things stay the same, and we continue to lose. But more likely, the changes will be very beneficial to the team.

North should definitely keep his place. I would've dropped him several Tests ago but the selectors obviously aren't going to pick the guy, watch him score a ton and then drop him.

Fox Sports talking about that doosra Hauritz bowled after being hit for two sixes on the trot.

Was a decent ball. If he can do it, surely do it more often?

Pretty simple

At least one of North or Hussey must go

If they decide to drop Katich or Watson down the order, then the back-up opener is Hughes

If they decide to retain the current opening combination, then the back-up middle order batsmen is Khawaja (fresh off a double ton by the way)

Smith is a direct swap for Hauritz and I have absolutely no idea what form in the nets has to do with anything

Yeah, I don't want him in the team anymore either, but he's continued his pattern of producing something really good just when the pressure is getting impossible on his place. It's tempting, but slightly unfair to just ignore the good things he does because of his inconsistency. For me, I'm not really convinced by any of the alternatives, or that they would do any better, whereas Marcus has at least shown he CAN produce, but just needs to work out how to get himself set more regularly.

Watch them bring in DHussey.

They love under-performing 30+ year olds with so-so Shield records.

'Steady characters' all.
