Well, I guess I might be one of such offendersActually, GS you're off. I was saying I'd much rather see a post littered with praise or regards a fan may have for their hero than see a watered down version of that post respectfully addressing all said hero's contemporaries.
Like:
"Sachin's ODI double ton was incredible, I remember being at the stadium, and the atmosphere was electric; we were witnessing something amazing. I remember when he upped a gear....etc"
vs
"Sachin's ODI double ton was incredible...although that doesn't mean it was the best ever, and Anwar's 194 and Viv's 189* out certainly compare, etc"
No one is handing out high distinctions here; no one is really giving marks out for being impartial in the same post. I'd love to hear about Anwar's or Viv's innings too, but it doesn't have to be in the same post just to show you're respecting other people's opinions.
I feel weird saying that, because those are very good traits: consideration and perspective. I just think this forum is generally pretty intelligent and level-headed, so seeing that in so many posts kinda numbs me. That's probably just me though, from the sounds of it.
I don't get this. I'm a fan of Sachin, and not a fan of Hammond. And I rate Hammond as the better test batsman (at least till now). Am I trying to be impartial when I'm doing this? Yes, because I should be impartial when I compare two players. That's my take on it.I think you're interpretation of my take is a bit off Jono. I am not really accusing people of being fake. I just think people are too aware of the importance of impartiality. Whilst it is important...this is a fan site. Be a fan.
Haha yeah AWTA. I'm a fan of cricket, first and foremost. I'm not here to flag-wave or represent my country in the great online war of cricket fans. I have my favourite players and I've let that be known but I try not to let that get in the way of my opinions on quality too much.I don't get this. I'm a fan of Sachin, and not a fan of Hammond. Btw, wtf? What's the story with your current avatar?
absolutely true..Haha yeah AWTA. I'm a fan of cricket, first and foremost. I'm not here to flag-wave or represent my country in the great online war of cricket fans. I have my favourite players and I've let that be known but I try not to let that get in the way of my opinions on quality too much.
I see this forum more as a discussion site than a 'fan site' really, but I suppose we all find different uses for it.
Shocker!
Yeah once in 15 years The one in 2007 was a 2 match series..Well thats just plain wrong. Aus have played a boxing day test in 95/96 during a 3 test series, cant get any more 'summer' than that.
Agreed...I mean the other day someone opened a thread here about how arrogant Imran Khan was... It is important to separate the professional from the personal..however it is also important to not assume that anyone who picks Tendulkar over Lara does so for his humility. I prefer Tendulkar over Lara..and I believe Tendulkar comes across as a very humble individual but those two opinions of mine are not correlated or linked in any way.I would take an arrogant dennis lillee over a humble roger binny any day. this PR driven crap about humility is something I can't stand.
TBF, I think the praises have started to get a bit silly. Every run the guy scores now is celebrated to the hilt. Fair enough, if he thinks he's better then that's his opinion. What's ironic about the praise is if Warne cared enough for off-field behaviour he would/should have conducted himself better. Just smacks of "let's join the party" to me.
Should've kept it to yourself, not like he's ever had anything interesting to say.Jono appears to be starting a thread. Get the feeling it'll be interesting. Didn't know where else to put this.
Looks like he bailed on his thread anyway.Should've kept it to yourself, not like he's ever had anything interesting to say.
I had no idea what the thread was going to be - he just seemed in a particularly good run of form posting wise and he'd been creating the thread for about twenty minutes. It's a good thread IMO.The actual thread he's posted is almost anti-climactic after all this build up by PEWS
That's a first. Seriously a FIRSTI don't find him exciting to watch
Nah we all have different tastes when it comes to that. That's a first. Seriously a FIRST
I have heard criticisms about not performing under pressure, about not performing McGrath/Donald, but that he is not exciting to watch seems impossible for anyone who appreciates cricket.
It doesn't provide avenue for people to adjust their halo and cry 'fanboy', or express how annoyed they are at everyone else. It's just too plain.I had no idea what the thread was going to be - he just seemed in a particularly good run of form posting wise and he'd been creating the thread for about twenty minutes. It's a good thread IMO.
Precisely why I think it's a good thread. It'll probably only get 10 replies though. It doesn't provide avenue for people to adjust their halo and cry 'fanboy' or express how annoyed they are at everyone else.
