***Official*** Tendulkar vs Ponting Thread

Jeez, you're sick of this argument after joining last month??

As others have stated, the point of this thread is to cater to those who want to debate in detail whether Sachin or Ponting is better without derailing other threads. If people are posting on that here they're doing the right thing - so long as they're following the forum rules in what they actually post.

if sachin does manage to put the records beyond ricky's reach, then graeme smith is the only who could even come close to scoring 15000 runs 50 centuries; sanga has a very distant shot too. looking into the mirror, not the cracked one ian chappell used, i predict these final figures.

sachin 15.5K runs - 52 hundreds.
ricky 14.5k runs - 47 hundreds
smith 14k runs - 38 hundreds
sanga - 13k runs - 35 hundreds
Wow you think Tendulkar will score just 3 more centuries and Ponting will score about 7 more?? :p

Dont mean to start a debate but considering their current form, I would say its the other way around

Spudsy... this thread is a like a licensed whorehouse. This will save the sanctity of hundreds of other threads, similar to how a good whorehouse reduces number of ***ual offenses in a big city.

I don't want to hurt Ikki too much... with sachin playing for the no.1 team and ponting leading the underdog team in the forthcoming series, i hope punter plays well, scores a couple of hundreds and saves his reputation. if that happens, then he will end up with 45+ hundreds for sure. sachin? no one can predict when he is going to stop though!

Looking like it, unfortunately. The side has talent, but is not getting the right results. India without Sachin aint a situation most Indian fans arent looking forward to.

SL 1982-1992 can be regarded as minnows.

within four years of their dubut, SL won a series against india and beat pakistan in a test match IIRC. they were merely greenhorns, not minnows.
Nah, he's right SL were certainly easy-beats/minnows between 82-90 at least, even NZ absolutely slaughtered them in SL conditions

Regardless of those wins...the perception in world cricket towards them was that of minnows. Most cricketing nations did not take them seriously until 1996.
Some still don't. Australia have never invited Sri Lanka for a full 3 match series in their summer. Sri Lanka are usually invited during the Aug-July season which is not a cricket season in Australia...similar to how Bangladesh are invited during that period.

I dont mean to suggest either way..Just pointing out how they were perceived in world cricket back in the day.

Do we leave out West Indies too ?

For a period in the 2000's they were weaker than Zimbabwe of the late 90's/early 2000's.

Sachin or Lara,Sachin wins in my opinion, day in day out against pace or spin awesome against both ! He conducts himself on & off field class

I think many people (including my best friend and I) who 5 years ago would pick Lara over Tendulkar have now shifted to the Tendulkar camp thanks to Tendulkar's post 2007 World Cup form.

warne is a twit. how does it matter how a sportsman conducts himself off the field? a philandering warne is a greater leggie than a straight jacketed kumble! we are discussing excellence in sports; not role-models for life.

Probably just saying it along with who he likes better tbh.

A lot of posts about how good Sachin is often end with "and so humble" or whatever.
