I did watch it and thought he bowled okay, beat the bat often enough. Would hardly say he was played 'easily'.
Indeed. Hilfy bowled farrr better than his average suggested in SA. In fact watching him bowl in SA, he looked perfectly suited to doing well in England & it proved to be the case.

Yep he bowled well in SA no doubt, especially in the first test.

If you actually watched the series, you would know that Hilfenhaus was **** house in SA. Amla and Kallis especially played him easily and he never caused any problem for their batsmen. I remember the image where they both kept driving a hopeless Hilfy through the covers. Terrible. In fact, many people could not believe that he was selected for the Ashes.
Indeed. He was cack; ****house in fact, bowled far too short all series, got carried away with the pace and bounce and was pulled and cut for fun.

Watching Tendulkar this year must be about the closest thing you could get to knowing how Bradman played for his entire career.

Its scary to think, though, what Bradman might have done on these wickets.

No, you won't. You'll only change your definition of 'a good test career'. You'll start blabbering about minnows, helpful conditions, not too much exposure outside subcontinent etc etc and etc.
I meant an average below 35 when I said a good test career. He is not going to achieve it. Not going to give any excuses, except not counting tests against England.

With Shri on this one; don't rate Ohja as a Test bowler at all. Might get there because he's still young, but right now he shouldn't be near the team IMO.

Did Hilfenhaus bowl especially well in South Africa? No.

Did he bowl well enough in a debut series to indicate that he was well worth persevering with? Definitely, IMO.

Yeah agree with that. People writing him off after that series were being premature I reckon.

I'm quite surprised that some have suggested that India are playing for a draw.

However, I think only two results are possible from this point.

India Win
Draw

Australia would need a spectacular bowling effort to dismiss the remaining 5 wickets cheaply, and then an aggressive batting performance on day 4. I wouldn't put it past them, but it seems very unlikely.

Credit to India for removing the Australian win from the equation, while scoring at a faster pace than Australia.

I would like to see them play aggressively and go for the kill. Score at around 5 runs an over till lunch or just after lunch and declare/get all out.

Money (metaphorically speaking) on a draw unless they really amp up the scoring today. A few balls aside, don't see that much wrong with the deck. A bit pudding-like but that's it.

Agree. Aus not a chance. Either way our record of crumbling in the 2nd 3rd inn of a test will ensure an Indian victory. But, sure would be happy to see us build a big score and at least put some pressure on India middle of day 5, but its so unlikely.
