I was rallying against the Hauritz selection from before the tour. It makes me so happy to be proven right.

And LOL @ North. Five Ashes Tests. Over/Under on the total number of runs he scores in that series? 100 IMO.

again I emphasize North will have a decent Ashes if he does not get to start against a swinging ball.

North now has a century every 6.2 innings :-O

That puts him 11th on the all-time list between Sobers (6.1) and Greg Chappell (6.3) and only behind Tendulker (5.8) of current batsmen...Ponting (6.4) is next best...

...while his 50/100 conversion rate is 55%, which is only behind Headley (66%) and Bradman (69%) :-O

And yet he only averages 38, so of course that means his next 3 Tests will be dire

Was good captaincy by Ponting to bowl Johnson straight up at Dravid. Poor captaincy to persist with Hauritz though. Missing Dougeh here.

Congrats to Tendulkar on a wonderful milestone too. Fantastic player.

Dougeh.

Looking forward to day three here, could be pivotal in the outcome of the Test. Tendulkar is obviously the main man standing between Aussies and a healthy first innings lead. Am very interested in how Hauritz is both used and performs in this crucial day. A poor day by him and the rest of the attack will leave them in a near impossible situation in being able to level this series.

From what I saw, George looked unsurprisingly nervous and the metrnomic accuracy that was talked about in his game seemed to leave him for most of the day. His action looks loose and as though it needs tightening up and refining, but he has played very little top class cricket yet, so naturally patience and learning are key.

George is missing an away-going ball quite badly. Whether via swing or off the deck, it hurts him that he can only bring the ball back in, especially since he bowls from wider on the crease than, say, McG. Doesn't really hit the seam all that consistently either, should be hurrying the batters more at that pace. Getting both would be great but one of either would improve his bowling by heaps at Test level.

Definitely not the finished product but with all the injuries, he really was next in line with miles in the legs.

Bit harsh? Drew a few edges, and had Vijay dropped. He looked ok for mine.

North is like the prettiest girl at the dance. Tease you, show you a bit of leg every now and then...but you know he's not going to deliver long term.

Knowing our panel, they'll take yesterday as vindication.

Hard to please, aren't I? Gets a hundred, and still bag him out. lol

If he backs it up in the second innings I *might* give him some leeway

Remind me never to go to one of your dances. How depressing :(

Maybe you're right there. Tbh I was probably fixated on getting Tendulkar out. Thought maybe Johnson the better bet.

As a side note, and it's already been said, how big was that six by Vijay? Fmd.
