I'm just shocked Kevin Davies hasn't been called up for France yet, given England's obvious connections with our neighbours across the channel.

I clearly stated ENG should forget about using target men as a starting option, not totally. They should be reduced to being last resort sub options.
Yes, because clearly Davies has been picked to start 8-)

He's obviously been picked as the best option in the specific role that he can play if required.

As such he's head and shoulders above Andy Carroll (who it probably escaped your notice since you thought Steve Harper was fit but was left out by Newcastle this weekend with Shola Ameobi ahead of him)

Wait stop. Your defending Davies selection now?. I could have sworn this post of yours a few pages ago, was showing distgust @ his selection along with most other posters:

Kevin ****ing Davies.
Anyway. No Crouch is already in as the target-man so a second one in Davies isn't needed. The 4 strikers that should have been picked are Rooney, Bent, Crouch, Owen/Caroll (in which i would have picked Owen).

I'm very much aware that Caroll also was left out of last weekend. The magpies manager made an hunch decision to stick with Ameobi's after his good mid-week performance vs Chelsea. Which a manager is entitled to do, since he may notice something in training (whether right or wrong) that pundits & fans may not have.

But for the life of me, i dont see what is the use of you bringing up what i said about Harper has to do with anything Caroll. Again this is just you being increasingly harassing to post with & for a big man who is in his 30s that is so childish...SMH.

What are you going to do now?. Hold it againts me until jesus returns that i simply wasn't aware that Harper was out injured when i made that post??

I honestly do not know why i even try have any decent debate with you, i cannot put you on the ignore list, since that wont make sense for reading threads. I would encourage you to grow up & act your age, but after seeing your posting style for over 5 years now, it would be naive of me ATS to expect anything better.

No, if there's one player who wouldn't have been better, it's Downing (aside from comparing a left winger with a right winger that is)

I would've been interested in seeing what happened if Fabio had called up the Germany U21 captain personally - he's apparently a winger and is tearing up the Bundesliga.
Downing's actually been playing though and not been rubbish.

Downing has always been rubbish for ENG though. ENG have seen enough of him on the international stage to know he is not up to it.

The only wingers that should be considered for ENG are Johnson, Milner, Walcott, J Cole, Lennon, Young. Anything lower than these blokes is crap

You know aussie, I wish Virender Sehwag, Ricky Ponting, Sachin Tendulkar, and Dale Steyn were eligible to play for the New Zealand cricket team, but they're not. I just can't believe you failed to get that point.

In general they are, some moreso than others. But my uncle was a big Glentoran fan before he passed away, so I'm always pretty happy to see them do well.

There's a difference between thinking Davies shouldn't be picked, and recognising that he is the best person to do a specific job should the manager decide to play in a certain formation/style.

If England want to play a 4-5-1 with the "1" being an old fashioned target man, I'd argue that Kevin Davies is the best player available for the job. That's not the same as arguing that his selection is a good one.

And as i said with Crouch already in, i dont see the need for a second target man in the squad, who can play in the same 4-5-1/4-4-1-1 formation, which he done many times for ENG in the past (although ENG should refrain from playing such formations). So its a poor selection by Capello on both a tactical & merit grounds.
