Yeh wtf, thats absurd?? Katich and Watson are the only reliable players in the team at the moment.

Not sure if you've been down to tamarama lately, but there's about a thousand blue bottles in the water atm. Not good at all

When I say 'form', I spose I mean both physically and mentality. I agree that he looks and seems to play as good as ever for the brief moments he is in, but mentality there is something going on with him. Whatever it is, it is significantly disrupting his abilitity to score runs, and he needs to work it out quickly.

That reaction you describe is exactly what I would imagine too, albeit in a less comical sense ;). I think it would be of especial concern to Clarke if Ponting gets out, because he seems to really follow his every move.
Yeah I think he's form is fine honestly as his batting. But just lacks the ability to put together runs for some reason. The 70 odd he got the in the first innings was an extremely good knock

Indeed, the little bastards are always buried in the sand as well so you always step on them. Other than that though, after the ridiculously long winter, this summer will be blissssss.

As for Hussey, i dont see why he should be dropped ATM. Since his career saving hundred @ the Obal he has been solid, obviously it isn't anywhere near as good as he was from Brisbane 05 to Bangalore 08. But unless he fails in the Ashes, he shouldn't be dropped, he clearly has to watch himself though given his age.
Hussey's averages in big-ticket series against serious opposition in the last couple of years:

- 17.00 (SA in Australia)
- 22.00 (SA in SA)
- 34.5 (Eng in Eng)

And in his last three series he has averaged 31, 23 and currently 22.50.

So that's why.

What are people afraid of with dropping Hussey? That his replacement will average in the 20s and 30s? The incumbent already is. That we will lose series and Test matches against good opposition? Well, we already are - thanks to numerous batting collapses. \

We used to laugh at the Poms for retaining failing old farts.

Even though I'm sure Hussey will still have a bit left in him, I don't see any problem with replacing him now though, because he is already 35. Even if his form is top notch for the next year, he will retire soon anyway.

Not saying Hussey shouldn't be dropped, but this 'big ticket' stuff is silly. Scoring runs against Aamer, Asif, Gul and Kaneria should be taken into consideration as well.

Yeah, that would have been another one of his recent "WTF?" dismissals. Dravid is suffering from the same problem.
Dravid looks a bit edgey at the crease as well though. Playing and missing quite a few. Ponting doesn't look like that at all.

What do u mean by 'big ticket' stuff?

Howardj was selectively showing Hussey's batting stats against South Africa and England, and called them 'big ticket' series.

Yes, when Australia play South Africa, England and India, the tests do get more fanfare. But the fact is Pakistan arguably had better bowling attacks than those three teams, and so Hussey's stats against Pakistan should not be ignored.

Now I don't know how well he did against Pakistan overall, or in Australia alone or in England alone. I'm just saying those 5 tests should be taken into account when assessing Hussey's last 2-3 years.

As should not scoring runs against them...as in June.

Cant believe that some people are calling for Katich's head when he has been one of the most consistent batsmen in world cricket for the past few years

Oz needs 1 change at the maximum (drop North for Hughes) with a possible change to the order as follows

Hughes
Watson
Katich
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey

Doesnt take Einstein to work out that a change will happen sooner rather than later but gut feel is that it wont be Hughes as this would require Ponting to move

Apart from the knock where Kamran and Yousuf gifted him a century he was average.

I was going to say the same thing.

The way Ponting is playing these days reminds of Dravid in the sense that Both look Solid when batting but than somehow find a way to get out before getting the big hundred.

I don't think Ponting should drop to 4. I want to give him more time (say, atleast until after the ashes) to see if he can improve his form, before writing him off. In any case, I can never see Ponting agreeing to a drop to no. 4. I like the opening combination, but I think Katich should replace Hussey at 5, and bring in a new batsman to no. 6.

as an Aussie fan i would be uncomfortable to play 4 left handers against Swann he's actually the ebst bowler I have ever seen to a leftie hopefully with Noth gone they will be playing atleast one less.
