Picking Mukund is the right move.

A very impressive young batsmen, though i think most likely Vijay or maybe Pujara will get a game ahead of him.

Is VVS fit for the game ,btw?
Was having real back problems.

Pleased with Unadkat selection too, seems the best of the young fast bowling prospects.
In any case certainly SreeSanth will play ahead of him,so good to give him experience and a feel.

Dude can win games without a spine. why would you not pick him.

Wow, Darren Lehmann would be so frickin awesome if he is about 20 years old atm. Would easily play instead of North et al and have a 10,000 run test career.:p

Not sure about the credibilty but a Rumour doing the rounds is that Rahul Dravid will call it a day ,in the next test match in his home ground at Bangalore.

Don't think Aussies will be keen to allow him to use a runner in the match,if he is carrying the injury from the start of the match.

Ponting already said this-

"He has been a bit of a thorn in our side there's no doubt about that, I guess him and Sachin [Tendulkar] would be the two who've done the most damage over the years, a couple of guys who've played a lot against us and have got good records against us. I hope his back's pretty sore for next week as well and he can't play."

I hope the rumour is not true, Dravid looks in good touch and averages over 60 over the past 12 months. Besides, we need him in South Africa.

I really wanted him to get into form thinking he would be crucial on the S.A. tour but now I'm thinking it might not be the worst idea (to retire). Doesn't look anywhere near as solid and impenetrable as he was, whether he's batting on 0 or 50 or 75. And considering the rate he scores at, centuries are going to be hard to come by in the time he spends at the crease...

Just had one pathetic tour tbh. Looked pretty solid in his 77.

True. But I've found myself thinking the same about several Dravid innings in the recent past when he's got a decent start, even hit boundaries early on and then not gone on to really make it count. I'd love to have an in-form, rock-solid Dravid in S. Africa but the current version is not that. Whatever happens though, he's been a huge legend for us.

Losing Dravid for the South African tour would be a HUGE blow. There's not really any way it can be dressed up as anything else.

My reasoning for selection in the SA Tour is,

In-form Dravid who loves big scores>Aging Dravid who averages over 50 in series' consistently anyway but keeps getting out for the 60s and 70s>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Some new rookie who'll most probably have a phailol debut series.

I agree, but Dravid hasn't been the best bet to average 40-50 in away series for a while now.

Get Vijay and Gambhir to open and bat Sehwag at 5 or 6 in SA imo.
Why would you do that?

It's not as if the ball stops swinging in SA later on and It's not as if Vijay would be more Solid in South Africa either.
The whole point about Sehwag opening is to get early momentum going.

I am also worried about Raina in South Africa.
I can see Him being a walking wicket in South Africa against Steyn,Morkel and company.
Is a good bet in most conditions that prevail currently, but not certainly for the South African tour.

Dravid is my favourite Indian player - classy, humble, underrated and just a super player

But he's a couple of years past his best and if he decided to retire today, I reckon it would be a good decision because he is close enough to his best to be massively missed

Yeah agree with reasoning.... that is why I'm hoping he'll play at least until the South Africa series.

It will a huge blow but equally giving a new player the chance.. wouldn't be a bad thing in the long run. India need to retire the trio one by one. I wouldn't mind seeing either Vijay or Pujara given a go in South Africa.

Yeah, all signs indicate that Raina will really struggle in S. Africa with short-pitched bowling, but unless you drop him for a newbie, his place is pretty much assured as he's competing with Yuvraj.

If Dravid makes it to SA, and Pujara impresses in the next test, we could see a three way shoot out between Pujara, Raina and Yuvraj tbh.

As good as Raina has been in the few games he's played, The very prospect of him playing on a bouncy deck against Morkel and Steyn scares me tbh.
