If both North and Hussey were to leave the team, Hughes could try batting at no. 6 in North's place, but who could replace Hussey?
Think Hussey will keep his place for the rest of the series regardless of the result hereIf both North and Hussey were to leave the team, Hughes could try batting at no. 6 in North's place, but who could replace Hussey?
Yeh but when it came down to it, he didn't get the wickets. Don't get me wrong though, I think Hilf is a class bowler and a keeper for the team. If the track is turning more than this one though, I see nothing wrong with dropping him or Bollinger and using two spinners (Haury and Smith).Hilf actually bowled fairly well in the first innings. His line was a little off but I had a feeling he would come through
Yeh I would be almost certain of that, but I just meant as a hypothetical...Think Hussey will keep his place for the rest of the series regardless of the result here
Wouldn't drop Hussey actually. Just North for Hughes. I'm not too sure about the Australian domestic scene but I'm pretty sure there will be international quality batsmen in there. One was mentioned earlier, can't recall his name.If both North and Hussey were to leave the team, Hughes could try batting at no. 6 in North's place, but who could replace Hussey?
Yeh if you look at his batting graph HowSTAT! Player Batting Graph, it just looks damn terrible...Hussey is an interesting one. His career has been on death row for a couple of years, but he keeps surviving.
The **** will scrap on I reckon.
If we win this test tomorrow (fingers crossed) it'll be down to the efforts of hilf, dougeh and johnson than any spinning efforts so bringing Smith in for the second test would be an unnecessary risk. I mean, I personally know steve so I want him to play as well, but its just not right for the team. His spin will get murdered and there are a number of other contenders on the domestic circuit who deserve it more. If any changes need to be made for the second test it is bringing Hughes and dropping Katich back down to six.Yeh but when it came down to it, he didn't get the wickets. Just have this feeling that every time the selectors pick him again they're thinking 'Gosh, he's got to come good again, right?'Hussey is an interesting one. His career has been on death row for a couple of years, but he keeps surviving.

Looking at that graph he hasn't been that bad. I suspect it's just unrealistic expectations due to the killer start he had.Just have this feeling that every time the selectors pick him again they're thinking 'Gosh, he's got to come good again, right?'
I have no problem with Katich dropping back down to six. He's looking incredibly scratchy at the moment but still manages to stick around and accumulate so he could be perfect for some stability in the lower orderHughes batting at six sounds like a bad call tbh. The guy is an opener, if you're going to play him then have him open.
But he shouldn't open ahead of Katich or Watson either, because they are far better than him.
If Norf gets the chuck, I'd pick Smith.
It's pretty bad IMO - Look at the way he scores now, his age and the players waiting on the wings. Has to go, sooner the better.Looking at that graph he hasn't been that bad. I suspect it's just unrealistic expectations due to the killer start he had.
Yeh well to be honest, it seems hardly any Indian wickets these days turn well either. Many have become batting paradises which don't assist any kind of bowling. Dunno about Katich though...I don't really like the idea of having two aggressive batsman, in Hughes and Watson, as openers. I think the Katich/Watson combo really works well, with Kat holding the fort, so to speak. If we win this test tomorrow (fingers crossed) it'll be down to the efforts of hilf, dougeh and johnson than any spinning efforts so bringing Smith in for the second test would be an unnecessary risk. Watson coming in at six is a bit of a waste. Doesn't make sense to waste our most inform batsmen down the order and coming in against spin.Yeh well to be honest, it seems hardly any Indian wickets these days turn well either. Even though its really not optimal, I'd prefer Hughes at 6. Or you could even have Watson at 6 (to put less strain on him) and Hughes and Kat opening.
Has Hughes ever actually opened with Watson? I only recall him being paired with Kat...Watson coming in at six is a bit of a waste. Doesn't make sense to waste our most inform batsmen down the order and coming in against spin.
I kind of wish the selectors had brought Usman or another middle order bat on tour.
And rightfully so. The most important thing is to get the wicket decisions right.Right, but I think he'd consider the decision a bit more significant because it was a wicket. I really can't imagine a non-wicket taking no ball decision going to the third umpire and holding up play and so on.
Very strange moment anyway.
Yeah don't think soHas Hughes ever actually opened with Watson? I only recall him being paired with Kat...
