***Official*** T20 Champions League in South Africa

Then what makes you so sure that they "gifted" Chennai that win in the league game?
There was an exchange between Jacobs and Dhoni after the presentations, both gave each other the thumbs up before walking off the field. It was probably harmless acknowledgement by either captain that their respective teams were to go through to the semis, but you can see how some people would see it as conspicuous and take it and run with it.

I'm totally cool with Murali indulging a bit in relation to that. Dude's surely deserved it, after all.

If he trots out in the World Cup with 800 on his back, that'll be a bit different.

Putting it out there that I have thought for years that a similar tournament to this in the List A format would have been successful. Especially 15 years ago when that format was thriving.

He is entitled to it. Benchy is just saying its self-indulgent. and it is.

That doesn't mean Murali can't do it. He's just calling a spade a spade.

Just like players having nicknames and **** on their back during the T20s was **** and "look at me" stuff, like 'Roy' for Symonds. GTFO.

I love Hussey but "Mr Cricket" was facepalm.

Ergh, and the way Brett Lee still had Binga written on his Kings XI shirt earlier this year.

lol... He was leaving the presentation ceremony before Dhoni made his statements and instead of waving a bye, he did that.. Jeez, the Pak-English series has messed up some CW members' minds while watching cricket..

Murali wearing 800 is self-indulgent. But it's still awesome.
No, its not.. CSK gave him that jersey as a mark of their appreciation of what he has achieved and it would have been insensitive of him to have NOT worn the jersey they made specially for him. Just don't see what indulgence, bragging have got anything to do with this.... Sachin had a bat called Genius... He was obviously bragging... 8-)

Where did you get that info from?

After all the bad press the IPL teams got last season, it's good to see two in the semis, and one eventually win, even at the expense of pushing aside the mighty Bushrangers. While that will put an end to the heckling of IPL teams in the Champions' League, and the IPL in general, for now, the problem still stays with all IPL teams- they need all four overseas professionals to survive- notably RCB, who needed Cameron White and Ross Taylor to compete. That's not encouraging, is it?

The encouraging thing, however, is the performance of the champions' Indian players. Vijay and Ashwin lead the honours with bat and ball, and should be T20I regulars. Raina and Dhoni are already established. In addition, we've seen good performances from Badrinath and Jakati (a far better all-rounder than captain's boy Jadeja, on all counts) across the series. Most important, however, is the performance of Balaji. He's no IPL find, but once an India regular, and this should be his comeback medium. He has it in him to represent India in T20Is, and being a seam-up bowler, he's a lot more relevant. A lof of India's top T20 bowlers are spinners, but with a pacer in the ranks, it's a good sign.

Looking at their strength and current track record, you can field the current Chennai Super Kings team as an Indian T20I team, by filling in the gaps once the overseas players leave. You can have Sehwag for Hayden, Gambhir for Hussey, Yusuf for Albie, Yuvraj or Rohit for Kemp, and collectively Irfan, RP Singh and Zaheer for Bollinger, Murali (big shoes, but still to fill) and Thushara, keeping the rest unchanged. Picking a starting XI won't be tough. Even the folks on the bench can contribute- they're all good fielders!

Outside of that, an option may be opened up with Vinay Kumar, and also Kohli, and add Tiwary from Mumbai Indians, but a lot of India's top T20I players were missing as their teams didn't make it.

I wouldn't put any stock on Balaji's figures in the final, he'll get smashed when he comes up against any decent batting lineup that hasn't been utterly choked by the spinners.

I think Balaji lost his pace.........And his swing...I think he concentrated more on line and length....

I think Balaji is a much better test bowler than a limited overs specialist due to his lack of pace....if he improves & gets closer to his Pak test series form 5 years ago, he can still be a strike bowler with his swing & nagging offstump line....

and about the IPL teams' unfair advantage of having 4 overseas players, think it all evens out as they spend together just about a month in a whole year..whereas pro clubs like warriors & Lions are together all year....
when the IPL teams got thrashed last year, being a last minute collage team with big names was the heckle mantra...and now that they have done well ppl point the same age old "big names" thing as the reason...Strange!
CSK won cos they played well and played collectively with a lot of local players pulling their weights along with their overseas players...

Balaji's lack of pace and line and length was what helped him in the finals, not to mention the fact that he was bowling at a time when the spinners had already done the damage. Under pressure, he may not perform as well. If you recall his last over in the CL, it went for about 15-odd runs.
