wow surprise to see Kamran Drapmal in all time ODI XI of Pakistan..

I thought Moin Khan was the best keeper/batsman of his time in limited overs cricket.. off course Gilly started to fire later on..

but anyways my XI will look like this

1 Saeed Anwar
2 Aamir Sohail (just because he made a perfect pair with Saeed anwar)
3 Zaheer Abbas
4 Inzamam Ul Haq
5 Javid Maindad
6 Shahid Afridi
7 Imran Khan
8 Moin Khan
9 Wasim Akram
10 Saqalin Mushtaq
11 Waqar Younis

12 M. Yousuf
13 Shoaib Akhtar
14 Abdul Razzaq

Interesting that you have gone picked both Afridi & Razzaq. I reckoned picking them both for such hypotetical match-ups would be a bit too risky TBF.

exactly considering how crap he has been bowling over the past few years..

International Captain
NEW ZEALAND:

1. Brendon McCullum
2. Stephen Fleming
3. Nathan Astle
4. Martin Crowe*
5. Roger Twose
6. Chris Harris
7. Chris Cairns
8. Richard Hadlee
9. Daniel Vettori
10. Shane Bond
11. Danny Morrison

Back-ups: Scott Styris, Glen Turner, Dion Nash, Jacob Oram.
Some very strange picks among this lot, most noticeably playing New Zealand's greatest ever opening one day bat at three. I can't agree with opening the batting with Brendon McCullum either, not at this stage anyhow. Dion Nash ahead of Kyle Mills on the back-ups list is quite absurd too, Nash was never a good one day bowler.

International Coach
Sanath Jayasuriya
Thilakaratne Dilshan
Kumar Sangakkara+
Aravinda de Silva
Mahela Jayawardena
Arjuna Ranatunga*
Angelo Mathews
Farveez Maharoof
Chaminda Vaas
Lasith Malinga
Muthiah Muralitharan

I guess Mathews is a bit of a questionable choice considering he hasn't played much. Atapattu a bit unlucky to miss out. Also Arnold wasn't too bad in this format I'd say.
I'd pick Rumesh Ratnayake over him on a seaming wicket and Upul Chandana on a spinning wicket. Chandana was an able batsman in addition to his leg breaks. Even a batsman like Mahanama can be included there because bowling will be shared by many bowlers. There are three seamers, one spinner. Jayasuriya, de Silva and Dilshan are good enough 5th bowlers. Ranatunga in his youth was a brisk medium pacer too. So there isn't much problem with the bowling.

Dont think Astle would be out of place batting @ # 3. He was versatile enough. But if you want to stay rigid to form, you can have him opening & drop either of Fleming or McCullum down the order, no issue.

Up until earlier this year. I probably wouldn't have opened with McCullum either. But id be willing to take the risk now. I'd understand if you have doubts & may want to bat in him @ # 7 still though.

Also camn down, i simply forgot about Mills. Should be in the back-ups.

But i'd say Nash was a better ODI bowler than his average suggested. Have always been shocked to see its 40.

I am unashamedly a Mills fan, but I'd go even further and put him in the XI ahead of Morrison.

Morrison's commentary also a factor.

I liked your side too the only negative is lack of 6th bowling option barring Sohail but with that bowling attack a 6th bowler will be hardly necessary.I am not fussed if we go by your team or my team.

What was wrong with O'Donnell? My top 5 batsman are very good and should be able to bat through the majority of overs so I wanted numbers 6 and 7 to be the most aggressive batting combination possible and also good enough to get through 10 overs with ease and I feel more confident with SOD's ability with the ball compared with Symonds.

Blakus

State Vice-Captain
For a bit of fun, I might do what Zaremba did earlier in the thread and make an Aussie XI of players who never played ODI's

Victor Trumper
Charlie Macartney
Donald Bradman
Neil Harvey
Stan McCabe
Clem Hill
Jack Gregory
Alan Davidson
Ray Lindwall
Don Tallon
Bill O'reilly

Pretty handy side if I say so myself.

Indian never-played-ODIs XI -

Vijay Merchant
Vijay Manjrekar
Vijay Hazare
Polly Umrigar
Tiger Pataudi *
Vinoo Mankad
Bapu Nadkarni
Amar Singh
Naren Tamhane +
Mohammad Nissar
Erapalli Prasanna
-----------------------------
Dattu Phadkar
Subhash Gupte
Nari Contractor

Two great players of pace in Merchant and Manjrekar.
Hazare, Umrigar and Pataudi in the middle order.
Mankad, Nadkarni and Amar Singh the all-rounders. Nadkarni perhaps the stingiest bowler of all time too, he'd have been a star in ODI cricket. The RM all rounder - Dattu Phadkar to replace one of Mankad and Nadkarni on seaming pitches.
Tamhane to keep wicket, and Nissar and Prasanna to complete the lineup. Gupte loses out to Prasanna due to the team already possessing two SLA bowlers in Mankad and Nadkarni.

New Zealand Never Played ODIs XI

Stewie Dempster
Graham Dowling
Bert Sutcliffe
Martin Donnelly
Walter Hadlee
John R. Reid
Tom Lowry
Dick Motz
Frank Cameron
Gary Bartlett
Jack Cowie

Batting is pretty good, but the tail is rather long. Bartlett, Cowie and Motz forming both a very quick and quality fast bowling barrage with Cameron's moving medium pacers and Reid's medium pace/offspin.
