International Coach
EASTERNS TITANS

The Easterns Titans Franchise is pleased to announce that Chris van Noordwyk has agreed to an extension of his contract to remain in his present capacity as the Titans coach through the 2010/2011 season. In his first year as coach, van Noordwyk led the team to the semi finals of the MTN40, Standard Bank Pro20 Series and runners up in the SuperSport Series.

Vincent Sinovich, Chairman of the Franchise commented that: “Chris took over as coach at the beginning of last season. In renewing the coach’s contract, the Franchise is seeking to maintain continuity and build on the development of last season.”

In addition, the Franchise has announced the signings of Henry Davids, Cornelius “CJ” de Villiers, Jacobus Pienaar and Hardus Viljoen to the 2010/2011 squad. Highlighting these signings, Sinovich said: “Davids is a talented batsman who will bring added depth to our lineup. “CJ” de Villiers is a fast bowler who has established himself as one of the young bowling prospects in South Africa.”

“The signing of Pienaar and Viljoen demonstrates the commitment of the Franchise to continue providing opportunity for local players,” added Sinovich.

Chris van Noordwyk, the coach commented: “Jacobus Pienaar, a former pupil of Waterkloof High School is a great prospect who has played for SA Under 19 in the 2003/2004 season. He was also selected for the SA Under19 Colts in the same year. He is a middle order batsman and right-arm seam bowler who started his senior cricket career at TUKS and is currently playing for Easterns.”

“Hardus Viljoen is an opening bowler and lower order batsman who has represented Northerns Schools. He is also a product of Waterkloof High School whose senior cricket career started at Irene Villagers. Hardus is also currently playing for Easterns as part of the Franchise arrangement,” concluded van Noordwyk.

Shamzi and Tahir bowling in tandem will be delightful to watch.

I reckon the Titans are going to stuggle to get the results they expect. There was a mass exodus of good bowlers and it's going to be hard to rebuild and make it a solid attack. Aside from CJ de Villiers they haven't signed anyone as replacements.

CAPE COBRAS

Its been quite a busy winter down in Cape Town. There has been a change of coaches. The highly successful ex-Pakistan and Titans coach is now in charge of the Cobras. He was recently working at the Dolphins academy.

The Cobras are in the process of signing Owais Shah from Middlesex and will play across all formats for the up-and-coming season.

Dale Steyn has also moved south, after living in Cape Town for a couple of years. Also moving south is Dane Vilas from the Highveld Lions and he will take up the glove duties.

Both Yaseen Vallie and Beuran Hendricks have been promoted from amateur level. Vallie has been successful at amateur level and has come through the WP junior ranks and he represented the SA U19 team. He is a well organised middle-order batsman who can bowl tidy off-spinners. Hendricks is a very raw left-armer with genuine pace.

Alistair Gray, Ryan Canning and Sybrand Engelbrecht have been released.

2010/11 CONTRACTED SQUAD.

BATSMAN: Herschelle Gibbs, Graeme Smith, Stiaan Van Zyl, JP Duminy, Justin Kemp, Andrew Puttick, Owais Shah, Justin Ontong, Richard Levi, Yaseen Vallie.
KEEPER: Dane Vilas
SPINNER: Robin Peterson
FAST-BOWLERS: Vernon Philander, Rory Kleinveldt, Dale Steyn, Charl Langeveldt, Johann Louw, Monde Zondeki, Francois Plaatjies, Beuran Hendricks.

HIGHVELD LIONS

The Lions have announced that the coach, Dave Nosworthy, has extended his contract by 2 further years to 2013.

It has been more a story of exits than in-comings at the Wanderers. The only addition being Paul Harris but they will feel the recovery of De Wet would feel like a new addition. Dominic Hendricks and Graham Hume are on rookie contracts.

They couldn't keep hold of 3 talented youngsters in Dane Vilas, Devon Conway and Tabraiz Shamsi who have all gone on to pastures new.

They feel they will rely their amateur system which is starting to produce a few cricketers.

2010/11 CONTRACTED SQUAD

BATSMAN: Alviro Petersen, Stephen Cook, Jonathan Vandiar, Vaughn van Jaarsveld, Zander de Bruyn, Neil McKenzie, Jean Symes, Richard Cameron, Temba Bavuma, Dominic Hendricks.
KEEPER: Thami Tsolekile
SPINNERS: Paul Harris, Aaron Phangiso, Werner Coetsee.
FAST-BOWLERS: Andre Nel, Freidel de Wet, Craig Alexander, Cliffie Deacon, Rob Frylinck, Ethan O'Reilly, Shane Burger, Pumelela Matshikwe, Etienne Gerber, Graham Hume.

BEST SCHOOLBOY TALENTS: Quinton De Kock & Keaton Jennings. (Both KES)

CENTRAL KNIGHTS

Probably the biggest change in the Bloem & Kimberley area is the change in name from the Eagles to the Kinghts. The reason is that the Griquas and Free State boards have now got equal share in the franchise and they wanted a new name for a new start almost.

They let CJ de Villiers leave but they will always bring through fast bowlers in the Free State and Obus Pienaar and Gino Vries have been given contracts. Divan van Wyk, brother of Morne, has also been given a contract along with Aubrey Swanepoel (spinner) from Griquas.

This season may be tough on the Knights if their 2 batting prodigy's in Dean Elgar and Rilee Rossouw get international call-ups.

2010/11 CONTRACTED SQUAD

BATSMAN: Dean Elgar, Reeza Hendricks, Rilee Rossouw, Boeta Dippenaar, Ryan Bailey, Divan van Wyk, Adrian McLaren, Alan Kruger.
KEEPER: Morne van Wyk
SPINNERS: Con de Lange, Thandi Tshabalala, Aubrey Swanepoel.
FAST BOWLERS: Ryan McLaren, Johan van der Wath, Dillon du Preez, Victor Mpitsang, Obus Pienaar, Gino Vries, Shadley van Schalkwyk

BEST SCHOOLBOY TALENTS: Gihahn Cloete (Noordkaap) & Keagan Rafferty (St Andrews).

Is that bloke Jacobs anywhere close to SA selection in any format?. Looks pretty good.

He thinks he is...

Warriors v Victoria: Jacobs does it all | Cricket Features | Champions League Twenty20 2010 | Cricinfo.com

But he wasn't even apart of the A team to Sri Lanka where the likes of Rossouw, Kuhn, Elgar and van Wyk all had strong tours. Be tough on them if Jacobs is elevated into the limited overs side let alone be VC courtesy of destroying 36 year old hacks like Shane Harwood.
Maybe not ODIs but a possible selection for T20s. Davey hasn't really impressed in List A.

Jacobs has all the confidence though.. Was quoted in the Herald as saying he wants to play under Johan Botha in the SA T20 team and that he is ready to do so.. I'm a big fan of his, and he must be nearly there..

Fair enough fellas. SA have some good depth if Jacobs isn't close to selection.

Also seeing C Alexander bowl the other day for the 1st time the other day. Surely if De Wet isn't fit, he should be the 3rd seamer for the IND series?

How does Tsotsobe still get picked when you got better bowler like Craig Alexander & Ethan O'Reilly?

Tahir unlucky not to be in the test squad also i'd say.

Alexander is just coming back from a serious injury and aside from some 20/20 games and a handful of limited overs games in Aus, he hasn't much cricket in over a year. Be silly to select him especially as he still needs to dominate SuperSport first which Tsotsobe has done. In regard to O'Reilly he needs to play first class cricket for the Lions to even get inline for selection. He has pace and can move the ball but he also comes onto the bat nicely. The 5ft nothing version of Garnett Kruger. Though, I agree with your point that Tsotsobe shouldn't be in the test side but with Parnell recalled, Lopsy won't be playing anyhow.

Tahir not available until the Indian series.

Aside from Robbie P (**** me) and JP who doesn't deserve or warrant selection, the squads look good. Would be tempted to get Rusty into the 50 over side but Langeveldt looks to have the death bowler slot locked in for the WC. Bit strange that Charl isn't in the 20/20 sides mind given how good he is.

A middle order with Miller, AB and Ingram sounds epic.

Regarding Lopsy in tests, he could be different story on SA wickets. Although he wasn't successful on those dead pitches in WI, he kept it tight and was unlucky not to get more wickets. Still a big fan of him.

Even without dominating SS, just by watching watching them bowls its fairly obviosu that they have the raw skills (especially Alexander) to be good test bowlers & trouble quality test bats, far more than Tsotsobe ever would.

Tsotsobe is just crap, seems like another forced quota selection TBH. Mclaren also should have been picked ahead of him certainly, unless he is injured too.

Also pretty good comparison with Kruger & O'Reilly is must say haha.

Looking ahead to real big series vs IND. Parnell has a lot of work to do IMO. Has talent and everything, but he doesn't swing the red-ball, very much straight up & down ATM. So ATS if fit, De Wet & Alexander should be ahead of him for the 3rd seamer spot behing Steyn/Morkel.
