Can someone confirm whether it's only at the US Open where they embarrassingly announce the prize money during the presentation? Or does it happen at the other Slams.

Can't quite recall this happening elsewhere. Find it unnecessary myself.

Yeah certainly not Wimbledon or the Australian iirc. Obviously a crass American thing.

Edit: how does Novak get to number two when he's beaten one top ten player all year? One of those things about the system I guess. And tbf he's always played **** loads of tourneys.
You only get 18 tournaments (+1 for the top eight) counting to your rankings, so it is really Federer's fault that he choose not to play the full eighteen (he's four short atm, while Novak is one short). It isn't really about how many tournaments he's played, just how few Federer wants to play.

As it stands, I'm not sure Federer really cares about any tournaments outside the Grand Slams and the odd Masters Series tournament. That's all good and well when he's winning the Slams, but he's proven to be mortal this season and his ranking is going to suffer.

I think the rankings system works pretty well tbf. If Federer really cares about the record for weeks at No. 1 he probably needs to start playing more tournaments. I thought his preparation for Roland Garros was pretty bad, and I think that was reflected in his performance there.

Also, pretty great win from Djokovic this morning.

I can understand why people might criticise Nadal's style (I actually love watching him), but Djokovic was immense tonight. Those shots to save match point were so awesome. His post-match interview form is top shelf as well.

Still no one disputes my argument that two-handed backhands should be banned.

If you want to swing a sporting implement with two hands, take up cricket or golf ffs.

Gawd, I hope Rafa cleans out the Djoker tonight. Just to wipe that smirk off his face that he had in the post-match presser after beating Federer. Ruined another potential Raf-Fed classic too.

Although I'm a massive Fed fanboy, gotta give huge props to Rafa. When he first burst out on the scene, I thought he'd be a decent defensive scrapper with a whiplash forehand the only real weapon of note. Everyone thought he'd be the typical Spaniard and do well in the clay court tournaments before dissappearing for the rest of the year.Improved his offensive game immensely over the last couple of years especially the serve and the backhand. His knee, not Federer the only major obstacle in chasing Federer's GS record

Only in America could you have a fourteen day tournament and have the Men's Final less than 24 hours after the semi-final. The earlier finish and much easier match could give Rafa an advantage. I would like to see Nadal win and join Agassi and Federer as the only men to win all four Grand Slams on different surfaces.

Have a friend living in New York. Apparently he saw Federer last night on his way back to his hotel after he was knocked out.

Apparently looked something like this:

What don't I get?

a) If you're saying I don't get that contrasting styles make tennis matches, than that's blatantly untrue. I said a few pages back that Soder vs. Fed is some of the most fascinating tennis because of how different they are. Obviously same with Nadal and Fed.

b) If you're saying that I don't get that Nadal is 'ugg boots and acid wash', well of course I don't 'get' it, because it's a friggin dumb thing to say and I strongly disagree with such a statement.

I remember Burgey's posts during the 09 French Open when Juan Martin Del Potro was taking it to Federer (the official arrival of JMDP) and Burgey was acting as if it was absolutely ridiculous that someone like JMDP could take Federer to 5 sets and almost beat him. And I came in this thread pissed off at such statements.

Just because players like Berdych, Soderling, Nadal and JMDP don't have the attractive strokeplay and one-hand backhand like Federer doesn't mean they're not great to watch.

Or should I accept the Anil way of watching tennis. That is anyone nowadays that isn't Federer or Henin is **** and not worth watching

Spare me. The negativity of your posts in this thread since Federer's decline is palpable.
in a slam context, the only people i have seen beat federer when he played really well are nadal, safin and del potro in last year's finals...

with people like soderling or berdych it is not that fascinating for me because federer has to play abysmally bad to lose to them...a simple example is this year's quarter final match when federer played well below (his) average and would have been in trouble if soderling had played out of his skin, but soderling was equally awful (by his standards) and it ended up being a routine 3 setter for him...

the ease of federer's qtrs victory was deceptive and i was sure he would get into trouble with someone like djokovic if he took the same form into the semis, just like i expected he played really bad in the semis and djokovic played really well and the end result: a 5 setter won by djokovic...players like djokovic and even murray are good enough to take advantage when he doesn't play well...

fascinating for me is when both players play well, doesn't matter to me whether it results in a rout(sampras vs agassi, wimbledon finals 1999) or a five setter classic(federer vs nadal, wimbledon finals 2007 or the borg vs mcenroe classics of '80 and '81)...and i never said i hated nadal or djokovic or any of the others....i said i like watching a particular style of tennis more than others(and i have described that enough in here so i won't repeat myself), maybe that makes me "old fashioned" in some eyes, and "not a true tennis fan" in some others...so be it....

I LOVE it when someone who never, ever posts in a thread comes in specifically to talk about how **** it all is. Those posts are the posts that make CW great.

This extra day break is SO GOOD for Novak Djokovic.

And as a result Nadal has climbed 8 cents in the odds.
