Bollinger is better than Lee ever was, one or two series aside. .
Are we absolutely sure about that? DtR's only being playing tests for about five minutes and the recent series up here not exactly a glowing endorsement for his cricket smarts, tbh. Kept bowling way too short for the conditions.

CBA to check, but I'd imagine Lee's figures would be a lot more impressive at the same stage of his career & was arguably the best bowler in the world for a short period after McWarne gave it away.

Tough on Usman Khawaja. However, I think he's been replaced by Hughes as they want maximum flexibility for the Test lineup by putting Watson in the middle order which will allow him to bowl more and for us to play two spinners

Katich
Hughes
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
Watson
Smith
Paine
Hauritz
Johnson
Hilfenhaus
Struggle to see the logic in moving Watson into the middle order, myself, especially when he's likely to be facing spin straight away. He looks a much better batsman opening than he ever did coming in later. Has to bat top 4 for my quid.

Would also suggest stacking the batting a la 07/08 likely to have same outcome too. A 7-8-9 of Paine, Johnson & Hauritz should be enough support for the top 6 IMHO.

Mate,
Who can reverse swing the ball in the australian attack?
Johnson seam position is terrible ,most times the seam points upwards so reverse swing is very difficult to expect form him, last time all aussie bowlers struggled to get reverse swing in india.Bollinger has an upright seam position he might get some reverse, but i am not expecting reverse swing to be australian bowlers main weapon.
Watson & Hilfenahus mainly. Bollinger at times - but i dont think he is very good @ it.

[Nnanden]How many Shield games have you seen him play?[/quote]

Its quite obvious i did not see any & all i could have done is follow the scorecards & match reports, so this useless question any. What i've seen of his batting in international cricket, i dont see a 50+ average batsman long term - but its still very early days for him, so i'm writing off anything.

He attempts to play in a way like Damien Martyn, but doesn't get as far forward or back as Martyn did. He's more prone to falling over at the crease, whereas Martyn (and Sehwag, in a similar nature) always keep their eyes level and themselves balanced.

Example at about 1:40.
Well yes all true. But outside of swinging conditions, that lack of balance wont be exposed. Thus on flat wickets, when he plays most shot he certainly looks more textbook than any AUS batsman (he doesn't look as good as Ponting on the pull & hook though).

I'm interested in hearing why you would say that (the bolded part). I think the Australian selectors would LOVE Smith to average 40 with the bat over his first 30-40 Tests of his career.

His bowling needs so much work still, he's the 8th best bowler in most Aussie XI's at the moment.
Was a terribly worded post tbh, and was in a grumpy mood att. I was more trying to say that he's in there as a batting allrounder, and if he was going to keep his spot he'd have to be going closer to 40-45. Whether or not he'd keep getting a run scoring in the 30s would depend on his bowling I suppose.

Lol it was just a typo .How do i get it corrected?
If you've got an issue with it let the moderators know (moderators@cricketweb.net , or just leave a VM on one of our walls) and once James gets back from his holidays we'll try to sort it out, cause AFAIK he's the only one that can do it. Or you could just go with it like vic_orthdox has. Having more than one account isn't allowed though, so please don't register a new one.

No worries mate, I did have to read your post a few times to understand. I have no clue what's going to happen with Smith, I must admit I'm not very confident he'll have a big impact in Test Cricket unless he becomes a bowling all rounder, which of course can happen as he'll mature as a spinner.

Gambhir captaining the side.. that's good. He could use some match practice ahead of the test series since he hasn't played for over 2 months.

About time this was stickied...took me too long to find it....

Hazlewood out of the tour with a back stress fracture and they've placed Pattinson and Starc on standby....why would they place 2 on standby?

Is Cutting injured as he has a much more impressive record then the 2 standby players and I thought he was next in line after George?

Hazlewood injured? Personally thought he himelf was touring only to get a taste of Int cricket from the sidelines... Aus might as well tour with a person less.

Is the Pattinson Darren's kid bro?
Yes. Very highly rated by both the Victorian and Australian hierarchy. He was given more chances to play in the 09/10 Australian domestic season and bowled very well. Not many 20 year olds in Australia are taking 6/48 in the One Day comp.
