George would do fine imo. And that's if they play with three frontline seamers Julian.

Hmmm, dunno. Indian pitches tend to be softer like Adelaide and George, without going for too many runs, he hasn't looked very penetrative when I've seen him bowl there. Thought he was left a bit too easily and even Christian beat the bat more often.

That said, with all the injuries, he probably should be in the squad. It'd depend on who was injured as to how worrisome his inclusion in the Test side would be. He'd have a role to play doing a job but I'd be apprehensive including him as a wicket-taking option.

the spot for the opener looks interesting here

marsh , hughes,jaques

IMO marsh deserves it
Marsh? are you talking test or ODI.

Not a bad squad i would say.I would probably have Copeland in place of Hazlewood but Hazel will be a star in the future.I would also kick North out and i would pick a guy who has knock down the selection table for 2 seasons now,Michael Klinger. My team out of the squad picked:

1.Hughes
2.Katish
3.Ponting
4.Clarke
5.Watson
6.Hussey
7.Smith
8.Paine
9.Johnson
10.Hauritz
11.Bollinger

Bollinger, Johnson , Watson( He is just as good as any front line bowler we have currently in Australia really, with his ability to swing it and reverse as well),Hauritz,Smith that should be enough bowling.Batting pretty deep as we bat down to 10.

Not a bad side but i'd drop smith for hilfenhaus as another pace bowler. Nothing at all against Smith, he looks promising but Hauritz is the better spinner. If they are playing on a very spin friendly pitch (which they may in india) i'd maybe run Smith as a second spinner but he's more of an all rounder and will be waiting for retirements in my side to take up a number 6/7 spot. I don't agree Watson is a front line bowler. Yes he's handy and more then handy in the right medium pacer conditions but he isn't a first change bowler.

I'd do that as well, far too much on Johnson's fragile (and by extension Bollinger's) shoulders in that case. And Watto isn't suited to long spells.

Whatever happened to Andrew McDonald?
He just keeps on churning the job out for his state, but I don't think he'll ever be a good enough bat to be batting @ 6 in Tests. His bowling is super handy, and a great stock bowler who builds pressure, but I can't see him being picked as a specialist bowler either.

It will be very interesting in how the selectors deal with Marcus North.

They have given him a tremendous amount of rope, and surely two failed Tests in India would mean the end of his Test career. This is a Test series that promises one or two batting collapses from Australia, it would be really nice to see North show some spine and not be a part of the collapse.

Annoys me so much that North is set to add to his 17 Tests when someone like Hodge is going to stay stuck on his 6 forever.

Still enjoying a tin or two also from all reports.

TBH I don't think North's technically equipped to actually deal with a collapse. And unless it's Clarke or to a lesser extent Haddin at the other end, his chances of scoring are very grim. He is so terrible around off stump early in his innings it really isn't funny.

I honestly dont think 2 failures in India will be the end of North, with the current selectors they seem to really love North.Hodge is terrible unlucky the only guys i can pick out who were better bats than Hodge in australia during his time, imo were: Ponting,Hayden,S.Waugh.
Selectors are soon gonna be left with this when the big 3 retire and if North continue to fail and is dropped:

1.Hughes
2.?
3.?
4Clarke
5.Watson
6.?
7.Haddin

Khawaja would take one spot judging from the recent selections.Other possible options looking in the next year or so are Ferguson,White,Smith,Marsh,Bailey etc.No wonder they're so desperate for North to succeed. But seriously the guy has failed enough, another player such as Klinger who actually has made plenty runs in his last 2 seasons should have been picked for this india tour instead.

In that scenario, you'd definitely leave Watson as an opener, or my preferred option - move him to three when Ponting vacates that slot. I reckon with Watson and Clarke there, and if Hughes develops as we hope, then that will be a fine spine around which to build with the others you've mentioned.

Don't see a future for North myself either.
