First time I've seen Hamilton-Brown bat this season - impressed tbh

Played a similarly dashing knock on Sky versus Glamorgan a few weeks back.

Fair to say he favours the on side.

You say that, but Yuvraj did have his number a few times, IIRC.

Martin what's your vew on f-c status being given to matches from the Hambledon era? It was a completely different game then I would say. But CA's records have differed from Wisden's for a while now.

Think its a bit daft really myself - you get a bloke like Silver Billy who was the greatest batsman of his time yet he has an average of around 20 - and you cant even know the bowlers averages as the full bowling figures were often not kept - and of course prior to overarm bowling being legalised in 1864 it genuinely was a different game.

As for the other differences between Wisden and the ACS I think the ACS often have a point, but they certainly don't with those two extra hundreds they try to give Jack Hobbs and they lose a lot of credibility because of that - well they do in my eyes anyway

KP played some nice shots and you can see the longer he stays at the crease he starts to look his old self,I believe the more crease time KP can get while he's at Surrey the better off he will be.Shame both he and Hamilton-Brown got out because it was enjoyable to watch.

Yeah as you can tell I've lost interest in Surrey's run-chase, I've been looking at CA's archive to see what the oldest match is that they classify as first-class; so far I'm back to 1772, they seem to do so for any match between England, Surrey, Kent and Hampshire. I'm full of admiration for the work that the ACS do in getting these old matches on the record but I wonder if Wisden's cut-off year of 1815 isn't more appropriate.

Anyway the game probably has more pressing issues to concern itself with atm.

I'm sure it's happen before but it will be interesting to see what happens to the scorecard regarding Sidebottom against Durham - he batted out the last few balls as nightwatchman and is joining up with the England team.

Kirtley didn't bat as nightwatchman in that game though did he - he simply replaced Innes who'd just made a 100. The Sidebottom scenario is an interesting one - I assume he would be recorded as 'retired - out' if his replacement can't simply take his place at the wicket this morning. It would be like a player who'd been unable to get to the ground on time to resume his innings.

Notts got within 30 of Durham's total in the end, thanks in part to a partnership of 37 for the 11th wicket. Pattinson seems to have broken down in his third over though, rendering him of no further use as a replacement.
