Agreed. McGlashan and Kruger van Wyk are the best One Day keeper-batsmen by a distance (excluding McCullum, who is obv. better than both).
Thought I would post my response here so as not to derail the tri series thread -Has McGlashan been out of form?
After that gun 50 he scored against India in an ODI maybe he ran over a selector's cat or something.
McCullum's still going to keep in ODIs though.Yeah Hopkins isn't the best batsman of the keepers, but he is the best keeper. We can hide him down at number eight in tests (and probably in ODIs when Vettori returns) and make use of his keeping skills.
The person who should be doing that is MS Dhoni.
Did you see him in his first series? He was even worse if you can believe it.The person who should be doing that is MS Dhoni.
On a different scale, Prior besides being one of the best number seven batsmen in the world (and in England's test history) is probably the worst wicket keeper one has seen in nearly five decades of watching Test cricket. He would have been a laughing stock if the cricketing world was looking at where the keeper's gloves are in relation to the ball when it comes to him (standing up in particular) even half as closely as it looks at where Laxman's or Sehwag's feet are when they bat.
I have never been immodest about my modest cricketing skills as a young man but whenever I se Prior keeping wickets I have always thought I was a better wicket keeper thirty five years ago . . . and it was not my main discipline . . . . besides the fact that I never even played first class cricket . . .Did you see him in his first series? He was even worse if you can believe it.
Fine you must be right - I always thought it was strange that they announced him (Mcglashan) as being our 20.20 specialist last year and then they never followed through on it. He got 1 chance vs SL. So there must have been a change in policy to make Hopkins the number 1 for all forms. At one point it was Reece Young as back up for tests, Hopkins for ODIs and McGlashan for 20.20s.Na thats bull they just gave Hopkins the go ahead because they wanted him to play in all three forms.
Fair enough really, his failures in ODIs will probably end up hurting his Test chances which is a crock of ****.
Want to give Hopkins his chance, he deserves it after his last FC season.Fine you must be right - I always thought it was strange that they announced him (Mcglashan) as being our 20.20 specialist last year and then they never followed through on it. Anyhow - Who do you want as keeper for tests Athlai? you didn't say.
I disagree. Prior's method might be unorthodox but by in large he gets the job done. He's not even the worst Test wicket keeper I've seen in the last 5 days, let alone the last 5 decades. The person who should be doing that is MS Dhoni.

Thats okay :-)I disagree.
I am afraid I have a different opinion. Kamran Akmal may have his bad days but he is basically a better keeper (in comparison). His footwork is better and he stays lower both of which keep his gloves closer behind the line (and height) of where the ball is than with Prior who needs to go to school really.Bit harsh on Prior when we have Kamran Akmal.
If I dropped a couple of catches (or missed a run out) and the media went to town with dark murmuring about bad old days of match fixing, I would **** in my pants when there was a nick.Honestly think it's just mental with Akmal now. Thought he was pretty good when he first came onto the scene with his hands, reckon that by now he just has a brain freeze every time that the batsman touches it.
