Strauss Cooked him.....

Anyways, i read Mo Yo was supposed to play a 2 day practice game on the weekend...not sure if he did or if he scored any runs?

Trott reminds me a lot of Neil McKenzie. I think he'll fair similarly to how McKenzie did in Australia too, especially if he's forced to open as people are suggesting.
Think McKenzie was a bit better at those shots to be honest, and honestly not really sure if I could explain why he turned out to be a failure at the international level.

Are you saying tat pull- and cutshots are more important for an opener than for a #3?

I'd say keeping your bat straight is more important to an opener......

You got me puzzled here!
No im not saying that they are more important for an opener. For mine Im not sure if Trott has enough scoring shots to score runs in Australia. The cut and the pull are two of the highest percentage scoring shots in Australia and he doesn't have either. I can very much see the Australians dragging their lengths back a little and frustrating him because to me he needs to be able to drive or flick to score runs. Back foot drives against Johnson and co in Australia wont be half as easy as they are in England.

Right now, Im struggling to see how hes going to do better than score 20 (100)'s

If the cut shot is so important then Trott not playing it won't be such a big deal, Strauss should score about 8,000 runs per innings.
Honestly, if Strauss plays the way we know he can, he'll score a bucketload of runs. Was surprised he didn't do so last time, though I know he had a horror run of bad luck and poor decisions that went against him. Lately, he's been having problems with the around the wicket line which Aamer has used to great effect (and Morkel did in South Africa) so thats an issue he needs to resolve

Yep..
Left Arm round the wicket seems to cause lot of problems for strauss since the winter..
Except dougie to feast on him, if he don't correct that.

Carberry is 30 years old, and he was average for a very long time in his career. If you ask me he's just someone who managed to hit a purple patch in his career, and I expect him to regress within the next couple of years.

Granted 1 test against Bangladesh isnt much to go by, but I didnt see anything special in said game.
Would certainly have agreed with you at the start of last season and maybe at the start of this but three very strong years out of four (with one awful one) proves that he has become a very fine county batsman.

He has looked like a top class batsman whenever I have seen him in the last couple of years apart from against spin, exudes a lot of confidence and controlled aggression these days. Can fight it out at the start of an innings but can also dominate attacks.

I have no idea if he would actually make it as a test match batsman but think he could do well in the short to medium term at least and he has earned the right to try.
Is also a quite brilliant fielder but that is obviously just a bonus when it comes to selection.

Interesting, I don't deny that I haven't seen enough of him.

However, dropping a 25 year old for a 30 year old does seem to be a backward step for me rather than a progressive one, especially when no one believes that this player is likely to be any more than 'good' tbh. Anytime you have a player who's 30 odd start his international career you do so with the expectation that hes not likely to get any better than he is at the moment.

Test cricket should be about the here and now. There's no World Cup to build up to, so if you are in the best XI at the time (I'm not necessarily saying Carberry is) then you should be in the side.

And 30 isn't that old for a batsman. Look at the number of runs Tendulkar, Gooch, Lara, Ponting, Kallis, Hayden etc. scored post-30.

Really? I can't say I'd noticed. Why would a left-arm quick go round the wicket to Strauss anyway? It's taking lbw out of the equation for one thing.

the latter point is irrelevant. All those guys got on average 8 years experience at the international level before they reached their 30s. These guys were seasoned veterans that knew their game inside out by the time they were 30 having played the best fast bowlers in the game in every country day in and day out. Its not the same as throwing a guy with no test match experience and very limited experience outside of England at 30 years of age and expecting him to get better.

On the former, theres no evidence that Carberry is amongst the best XI. That at this point is pure speculation. The point is that Cook has been pretty poor for a long time but was persisted with because he was the future. Now that hes actually worked on his technique it makes little sense to drop him and pick someone who at best will be good enough for something like 2-3 years.

Yeah, thin L Trumper got his wires crossed, right arm around and left arm over can usually see Strauss off pretty early if they get him driving.

Yep... sorry . left arm over the wicket.
Both morkel and amir are got him that way. Even in ODIs against AUS he struggled a bit when dougiie bowled over the wicket
