bowled out for 73 in the second innings, Hilfenhaus gets injured, ever the pessimists!I suppose there's a silver lining, we can't possibly do any worse!

Hmmm....North does need to be ****ed off, I agree, but Hussey still often produces runs when we need them the most (Sydney anyone?) and can you imagine the annoyance of people if Ponting got dropped? We didn't make the hard calls on Hussey and North last summer.
Ponting should be under the microscope too, batting-wise.
I'm sure he'd love thatWouldn't permanently drop Ponting but maybe its time the selectors had a word with him or 'rest' him for a game as a sign.

Was just joking. Such measures could work with youngsters but if age is the problem here it won't do much good. Should persist with him and savour the moments when he gets going tbh. The day he announces his retirement can't be far off.I'm sure he'd love that
Yeah, we need a Straight Talker in the middle order.Exactly.
The selectors failed to take Real Action.

I don't know, they say class is forever and form is temporary, but 'class' is nearly 36 and can move down the order I think. Hope he comes good of course

It's a really small sample though. Ponting's still fine for now, but if this continues...Average of 10 in the year
Avgs 41 in 6 games and 10 in 2 games. Think you have misread the page.Oh right, season. I gotcha. Still.
Yeah, that's a stupid mistake. Brain not working.
Happens to me from time to timeAvgs 41 in 6 games and 10 in 2 games. Think you have misread the page.
Edit: What you said.
Said "pie-chucker" averages under 30 in test cricket as a bowler and has been our "best" (it's all relative, I know) bowler in this series so you'd think he'd be an optionJust find it laughable that it takes the penultimate over before lunch for Watson to get a bowl.
Yes he's a pie chucker 80-90% of the time. But here he's a lot more effective here than scattergun hit the deck bowling. What's more even the figures bear it out. Sure if you want to knock over the tail that might change, but the captaincy has been horrible. Australia could have had Pakistan 200 all out here quite easily.
Sorry indictment of Australia's attack is that they've only got a handful of balls in the area that the Pakistanis hit with monotonous regularityPakistan looking like getting around 350, and it poses the same questions of the bowling that were posed at Lords. Bollinger and Johnson look supremely underpar, and although Hilf has been below par too - it can be allowed to have a bad day among consistency over the past year. Bollinger is bowling no balls and doesn't have the foggiest idea where the ball is landing and, on slow pitches, Johnson doesn't seem potent or likely to take wickets. People often say Australia has its share of slow pitches, but I'd say they are still off the scale more pacey than English wickets, as you see people like Bollinger and Johnson not carrying the ball through above shin high at times, to Paine and you can see how the hit the deck style just becomes useless on English pitches. My experience, and this is very cautiously compared to Test cricket, is that pitches this summer in UK have been especially slow due to the total lack of rain that we have seen throughout the summer, which can kill a surface. Seems like it'll start raining again soon, so hopefully that'll put some juice into pitches.
Moreover, I'm aware of Smith's FC batting record, but perhaps they could get a 'proper' batsman in place of him, if he isn't going to be bowled. Watson and North seem to be capable of filling the fourth/fifth bowler role. Watson doesn't even seem to need to bowl long spells to be effective either. It is not as if he is overexerting himself at 77mph either.
Also, little pet peeve of mine that Asif has got next to no credit for his performance, whereas people will not shut up about Amir's performance, which was arguably less useful than Asif's.
