Asim Kamal

Can someone please tell me why Farhat keeps playing and a bunch of other no hopers keep playing.

And the extremely Talented Asim Kamal keeps getting overlooked??

No logical explanation has only stepped up and performed well everytime Pakistan has given him an opportunity.

I remember i was at the SCG when Salman hit his first test 100 Asim Kamal was also brilliant that day.

Afridi may not be a Test Player but his team and his country needed him and he let them down badly. They guy seriously must have Bi-Polar or something.

Really can't you just stop yourself from trying to slog everything out of the park. Who the hell says that they don't have a good temmprament?

Its Boom Booms own fault, no one cares if he plays a rash shot his country would still forgive him thats why he was the best man for the job.

Its such a shame Pakistan cricket seems to be run by a bunch of crazies. Because the talent seems to be there to be nurtured. If they were to keep stuff together, with the seniors yousuf & younis khan, while bleeding in a few more young batsman then the batting wouldn't be so troubled and weak, they would have been so much more formidable with their current bowling attack, they would most likely have won a couple of tests.

I don't know how much to read into Quaid-e-Azam Trophy but its 10 matches long at last season 4 players scored 900+ runs, 3 of them under 25 years old. Theres promise there, but the way they ridiculously seem to put things together is just wasting it all away. However at least theres hope with some actual talent there, its just a shame for world cricket.

The Pakistan first class cricket is a sad case..it does a very poor job of polishing the talent. Also, the conditions are so bad, even if a batsman averages 50 in a season, you cant really take that too seriously. There was an opener called Nasir Jamshed who scored heavily in the domestic league and got picked...and if you saw him play, you would wonder how made it that far.

Listen to the speech Imran Khan delivered yesterday for the MCC Spirit of Cricket event. He touches upon some of the issues ailing Pakistan cricket.

Asim Kamal is indeed a top player who has some gritty 50s under pressure against oppositions like Australia, India and South Africa.
However once again, he lacks the contacts and once Younis took his place in the team in 05, he hasnt got another chance..he should though..he is more than a few notches higher than the likes of Shoaib Mallik and Imran Farhat...both of whom make it using their contacts.

Yeah I assumed that it may be a bit dodge, so I looked for some solid A series for a better idea, but couldn't find much at all. I've started listening that speech only just up to his point on the review system, I'll get back back to you once listened.

I actually thought Kaneria was pretty good in the first Test. I really like him as a bowler so I might just be biased but I don't really think he got the reward against the top order he deserved, and I get the feeling Ajmal really needs a pitch (or someone going after him) to be effective. I'd definitely be leaving the bowling lineup as if; it's gun.

As for Malik.. well, I know I keep harping on about it, but the guy who should really be replacing Afridi is Fawad Alam. He's only 25, he averages 56 with the bat in First Class cricket and was given just three Tests before being dumped. Furthermore, it's not like he was even terrible in his three Tests - he hit 168 on debut despite batting completely out of position and boasts a Test average of 41. He's the ideal candidate not only for this Pakistan side but for any team looking for a batting replacement - what more can you ask than all that? Oh, yeah, he's a useful part-time spinner too... check.

Unfortunately I don't even think he's in the squad despite the fact that he played the tour game. It's a truly strange state of affairs.
Thank you.

Weather looks fine, if not as hot as here in the south. Only Scotland and Northern Ireland are getting much rain this week.

Ponting having a bat despite the somewhat overcast conditions. No great surprise to see Shoaib Malik coming in for Afridi.

It's good Clarke's being watchful and Ponting is trying to get forward, but that's what they were trying at Lord's...

Not a good start for the Aussies but the Pakistan bowlers have been puting the ball in the right areas. Not to worried about how Katich was dismissed, Watson was disapointing though. I've seen him get out that way a number of times now.

Looks like Rudi just turned an LBW appeal down that was plumb against Clarke to..

Hard not to be disappointed with this. Prime time for Poontang to grind out a big score and get back into some form.
