Just wondering why Amir is spelt Ameer at times?

The third choice is very difficult. Since we are talking about at the moment - I'm going to pick Morne Morkel as my third selection to go alongside Steyn and Asif.

Shows the weakness of Test fast bowling currently in that we have to consider bowlers who have barely played 10 Tests as the # 3.

Let's hope that in 12 months time that we don't have a new batch of names up for consideration, it would show a real lack of progress from the current crop.

Yeah it really would. I'm pretty excited about the bowlers on display at the moment though. Amir, Bollinger, Johnson, Gul, Hilfenhaus, Roach, Broad, Anderson, Finn, Southee etc are all 28 or younger.

This gets asked a lot; I fail to see why people don't realise that he wasn't named with characters from the Latin alphabet and hence it's just a phonetic translation. His name is neither Aamer or Amir; it's something in Arabic (IIRC?) characters that sounds like Amir. He'll probably pick one and stick with it soon, like Shakib did.

Yep - we've had the same with Muralitharan/Muralidaran and Aaqib/Aqib Javed.

The real mystery was Somerset's Dutch speed merchant Andre van Troost who for a couple of years was uniformly referred to as Adrianus van Troost which was a complete invention

Depends how you look at it. You could also say it shows that the fast bowling stocks are on the rise if so many new names are impressing.

I do tend to agree with you though - hopefully people are still talking about Aamer and Roach in eighteen months and they haven't gone the way of Sharma.

Johnson? Nah, I've always felt he is overrated. The 8 for 61 against SA was impressive, but since then, he has been a fine bowler, not a great bowler.

Well, that's probably not correct. In NL is is quite usual to use different names in daily life than names that appear in official documents and archives. Same difference as James-Jim, William-Bill, Stephen-Steve, Michael-Mick. Though I have never actually seen André van Troost's passport, it would be very, very likely that Adrianus is his offical first given name.

Me, my brother, my dad, my mum, my nephews & niece, several cousins, aunts and uncles all share the same priciple.

Voted Steyn, Asif and Johnson at the moment..

Although Aamer is my favourite...he just hasnt played enough to be considered 3rd best bowler in the world..

Hopefully in 3 years time, it will be

Aamer, Asif, Steyn

Bollinger so far has taken easy wickets against weak batting sides of Pak & WI. Johnson is clearly the 3rd best fast bowler after Asif & Steyn.
No matter how badly Johnson looks at times but still he is the best contender for 3rd best fast bowler at the moment!

Johnson's far too hot and cold for me personally. When he;s on song he's terrific but otherwise he's soemwhat disappointing. Maybe my expectations are too high.

For his age, Aamer is a fantastic talent and he delivers as well. Still too inexperienced to be called the third best bowler in the world I'd say but I'd rather give it to him than anyone else. Something about raw fast bowling talent that makes the future seem a little bit brighter.

Tbh 'tis is just fast bowlers, but yeah he does deliver and consistently. Just worried he's gonna end his career breaking his back.

Amir is a rock star for me...

Would go with Steyn, Asif and Amir....

However, thought Gul was also a gun in the last game.....how come he is not included...he was touching 90mph at times.....

Yeah Gul is good. Not a realistic chance of being one of the 3 best currently though.

Can't believe he's still only 26, he looks and performs as though he is older.

After a long time Gul looked like being worthy of a test bowler. However one test is not enough to include him in the top 3.
