*Official* Bangladesh in England

We really should be thinking of taking the powerplay in the next couple of overs. Trott can't seem to buy a run at the minute, is just plodding around blocking and hitting it at fielders. Forcing Mashrafe to bring the field up would allow us to up the run rate, and a good 5 overs could potentially put us out of sight in the game. If we could go at 10 an over in those 5, then the match is effectively ours. It's pointless leaving the powerplay until the last 10, as by then we'll either have collapsed further, or be pretty close to victory anyway.

OK, maybe not. Wright chucks his wicket away as I type that. This is embarrassing.

Why is it embarassing? After all, every other team has lost to Bangladesh in either 50-over or 20-over cricket at some point. Or do you mean the manner of the performance?

I agree with you that we should have taken the powerplay earlier however. We needed (indeed still do) something to kickstart the innings, especially as Trott's been glacially slow (and, even worse, getting slower as the innings has progressed).

Still tipping England at this point tbh ... Bangers are known chokers. Realistically though these two need to see us past the 200.

The manner of the performance Flyonthewall; been a dire batting performance thus far.

Does Trott realise that we now need 6 runs an over? I appreciate the fact that he hasn't chucked his wickets away like the other muppets, but 40odd* off 80odd deliveries really isn't good enough against these boys, on this pitch. There aren't any demons in this pitch, and this attack is nowhere near as good as we're making them look. If Trott had batted properly this would have been Englands to lose, as it happens, we're now going to really struggle to win. If Trott ends up chucking his wicket away after batting like this, I'm going to be annoyed. Have no confidence in taking him to the WC if he's going to be batting like this. How's he going to manage to score quickly in the subcontinent where the wickets are slower, and the spin bowling will be better than this?

50 for Trott. Meh. He better go on and win the game after batting like this.

Trott presumably feels that the key to England winning is for him to stay there - yes, in theory he could run out of partners, but he will think that if he's there at the end England will have won. At this rate though we could finish 230-8.

The key to England winning does rely on him still being there, but he needs to be striking at more than 60 FFS. It's not like this is the first time this has happened either. Trott's batted far too slow for England on more than 1 occassion now, and it's frustrating. He's proven in County Cricket that he can score quickly, but as soon as he pops an England shirt on he decides to just block and plod around. He's just horrible to watch.

Agreed that Trott's been way too slow and, as I said, the strangest thing is that he actually started off brightly (got a couple of boundaries off his first 10 or so balls) and then retreated further back into his shell as the innings went on. Maybe, just maybe, with that last-over boundary he's finally realised that we need to start scoring quickly though. As it stands Trott is backing England itno rather a quandry.

Seems to be one of those players - and Ramprakash was another - who feels he's playing for his place every time he plays for England. Obviously doesn't feel secure in the set-up, perhaps imagining that some people are just waiting for him to fail.

Yeah, there is that impression.

England are still favourites..
Masrafe has made a blunder...he is going to use himself and Rubel and Shafiul in the death overs..Bangladesh are known to be terrible at the death overs and none of the three seamers are capable of bowling well in those overs..

Trott plays like this for Warwickshire so not sure what everyone was expecting. He usually gets a decent start in the powerplays then gets bogged down and struggles to score.

Shahzad gone, Broad in. We're effectively screwed. If Trott had batted properly we'd have probably needed just 20 to win from here. The way he's constructed his innings has put these lower order boys under unnecessary pressure to score.

If any of these ****wits bothers to bat properly England will at least get within 20-30. After that it's just a case of whether some shots come off as they now need 6-7 an over.
