*Official* English Domestic Season Thread 2010

5-for from Cork against Kent (partial return to form for Denly as well); could he be in with a shot of getting to 1000 career wickets? Needs another 56 - and 400 runs for the 10,000/1000 double. Increasingly rare to get the thousand now, only three English bowlers (to be more precise, one English, one Welsh and one New Zealander) have managed it in the last decade. Anyone know if Cork is contracted beyond this season?

Excellent day at the Rose bowl, old Corky on the top of his game, bowled a great spell in the afternoon.

Briggs very impressive as well, did a Swann and took wickets in the first over of both his spells.

Anoying to lose two wickets at the end but although quite threatening Khan and Joseph bowled (not surprisingly) all over the place, hope Carberry and Mckenzie will be able to deal with them tomorow morning.

Signed a 2 year contract in 2008, so this is the last year of his contract, but he's had a decent season, is still bowling with decent nip and he's taking wickets so I imagine we'll try and keep him around for at least 1 more season.

Think we got him on a two year contract but the way his is carrying the attack at the moment he will get another one if he wants it.

Regards Denly he looked good in the first session but really got bogged down after he past 50, his wicket was really waiting to happen after that.

Good job from Hants so far today, 298-3 with Carbs and Mckenzie both getting tons.

Carberry probably doing enough so far this season to get himself on tour this winter.

Yeah, sticking it to his former club with 158.

High scoring too on the first day of the University match, with Oxford making 408-2. Their top scorer was Daniel King, a wicket-keeper from Canberra who hit 189. Playing hs second f-c match at the age of 27, he made 1 and 1 in the corresponding fixture last year.

Pleased to see David Sales back in the runs as well after some bad luck in the last 12 months - 127 v Glamorgan.

Donkey Panesar in breaking a partnership shocker. Granted they're about as bad as number 2 & 3 batsmen get, but still.

Jack Shantry's action isn't exactly a thing of beauty is it - and it somehow looks worse from round the wicket.

Just had a look at the scorecard on cricinfo - with the exception of one of the Cambridge lads who has played a handful of times for Surrey seconds none of the 22 players appear to have any association with a First Class county

I'm a great believer in the game's traditions but First Class status for the Universities seems to me to be something of an anachronism

Especially if they're now relying, in Boat Race fashion, on mature students from overseas. :D

I can't see what harm is done by giving this match f-c status though - it's the last vestige of amateur first-class cricket in England after all. And the Universities don't play anywhere near as many county games as they used to. I was shocked to see that Oxford had batted on until I realised that it's now a four-day match.

Kent heading for an innings defeat at the Rose Bowl btw. With only two batsmen averaging above 27 this season it's not hard to see why they've struggled.

D'you think some of the players' profiles submitted to Sky might not be entirely serious? Will Jefferson's favourite singer - Michael Buble? More one for the ladies, I'd have thought.

I'll be interested to see who Hamish Marshall puts down as his lookalike.

James Bennings' a star isn't he? Runs out Nixon and then gets bowled slogging Moeen Ali. We're well rid, tbh.

Very enjoyable day again at the Rose bowl and an excellent win.

Kent were poor it has to be said but enjoyed watching Ervine get a quick 50 and Corky was excellent again.

Poor Geriant looked horribly out of form.

Have to say I enjoyed the commentary in tonight's Sky presentation.

Nasser having a bit of a 'Leg-over' moment with one of the player's name being a particular stand-out!

I think Greg Blewett has been a good addition to the team. What's the story with him? Is he UK based like Iain O'Brien is now? (I notice that he spent his last few years playing for Kent).

Wonder if Warwickshire could manufacture it so Rashid gets a 10-fer but Yorkshi*e fail to win.

Obviously Durham to then blitz past everyone and regain their rightful place at the top of the table.
