McKay needs everything going for him to play at international level. I haven't managed to catch any of the series, but I wouldn't be surprised if he looks a bit short of the standard if he's bowling at anything less than full capability. Really, he's gotten the gig because he's one of the few one day domestic bowlers who have strung together consecutive seasons, unlike Rimmington and Laughlin, whilst still going pretty well in FC stuff.

Not convinced of the criticism of Paine in his role at the top of the order. I don't think he'll ever be good enough to be an A-grade opener in ODI cricket, though.

FTR, why isn't Johnson playing in this series?

Elbow infection, I think? Didn't he miss a game or two in the T20 world cup with that too?

Hate knocking a chap on first viewing, but didn't really seem to have much in his locker for an international bowler to me.

As someone who's more familiar with his work, what are his main attributes? If I were guessing I'd probably go for "accuracy", but we saw precious little of that yest.

Elbow infection, and for some reason he decided not to fast-track back to ODIs (probably because, frankly, they see them as not important enough)

McKay has a slower ball. That's about it AFAIK...

Clint McKay does look well down currently. Not very often you can criticise a bowler who in 12 ODI's has taken 22 wickets @ 22.81, but he is well below standard currently.

McKay is very much a bowler who needs to be in good rhythm to bowl well. As many are observing, his bowling does not rely on a single key element to be successful. His bowling style is a mix of decent accuracy (without having the fantastic control ala McGrath), enough pace to beat the outside edge (but not enough to worry a decent bat), some slight seam movement (yet nothing more than a slight deviation off the pitch) and the ability to bowl a slower ball (without the deception of a Dilhara Fernando).

When it all doesn't come together, he looks a rather mediocre bowler. It was a common perception before he started dominating first class cricket that overall he just looked ordinary, nowhere near good enough to ever play for Australia. Given form though, he is without a doubt of international standard.

i still can't believe this was the Aus team that beat pakistan and West Indies comperhensivly... this proves how dire pakistan and West Indies teams are..

The Aussies have been really poor in the past couple of matches.. hope this changes cuz i am tired of seeing one sided matches here..

I'd like to see whether chasing a total will affect the mindset of the Australians.

Or would that mean we see a 300+ total? omg pessimism.

good to see the current Aus team finding out about its real worth the last summer at home they looked invincible against two dire teams.

the main problem with the pakistan team is that .. they never seem to settle as a team

the game of ban, unban, ban, unban keeps on moving and going through
whereas in west indies, the same problem but in a different sense

i never saw them play as a team .. everyone is asthough playing for h is runs or records and thats the first step for failure in cricket

evevn this drumbling of the australian team is coming at the right time.. they r able to know their worth before the world cup

that should give them some time to regroup their combination

but all kudos to andy flower who has done a great job in making the England cricket team a feared one !!

Big blow to miss Hauritz.

Our bowling line up now contains no one who has played last year...

McKay played a couple of games last year in India....but hopefully he's no longer part of our lineup come game 3.

What is the point of any cricket match really? I don't get all the complaining regarding this series, just sit back and enjoy it for what it's worth. Plus playing a lot of one-day cricket before the world cup can only be a good thing.

The main issue with this series is scheduling it at the same time as Wimbledon and the World Cup though. Not a lot of sense having it at the same time of two of the biggest sporting events in the world. Not saying cricket should be dictated by other sports, but should make an exception here.
