In other news, Kevin Muscat must never be allowed to be the "specialist" commentator ever again.

Problem for Kewell is although he hasn't intentionally handled the ball, he's intentionally moved his body towards stopping the ball, and its hit his hand. The fact he's gone for the ball and failed to get it legally is what makes it deliberate, hence the red as it was a clear goalscoring opportunity.

What would have happened if the ball had gone in after Kewell touched it? Would he still have been sent off?

Quite rightly goes against you I might add. But yeah, will be interesting to see what the response is from herein.
Bollocks actually. You haven't had a ball hit at you that hard in your life. Tell me how, watching it at real speed and not the slow motion we all play at, how he deliberately handled the ball.

Let him be in one of those white shirts that were playing yesterday and see what you'd think. It was a poor decision mate.

Was a penalty but not a red for mine. Unless I misunderstand the law, the red is for deliberately preventing a goal by handling the ball, and I don't think you can realistically claim intention under those circumstances.

Oh well, good chance for someone to be a hero I suppose.

Just seen the replays. It looks arm to ball. Without being inside Kewell's head we'll never know if it was deliberate, but when you're standing on the goalline and move towards the ball with your arm outstretched it's going to be a red and a pen 9/10.

Pretty sure it is tbh.
But it isnt.

The law is that the player deliberately handled the ball and intentionally moved the arm to impede the ball, that the arm was in an unnatural position and that the player could have avoided the contact.

Im fine with the penalty if it was believed Kewell did all that. A case could be made that he did. But "Hit him on the arm, the arm was away from the body, stopped a goal" =/= an automatic penalty.

Looks like that tackle from the Ghana player from behind should of been a red card aswell..

Love the way that if Kewell had turned his body 20 degrees, without moving his arm an inch, nobody would give the proverbial **** - least of all the ref.

Dire in extremis.

Why are they advertising geeky-ness during the half-time break. You'll never beat Tom Baker.....
