Worst thing NSW can do is just play kids. You've got to have a smattering of older guys; experienced heads. It not only improves the team, but fasttracks the development of the younger players. Looking at the Qld experience...Lockyer is not only our best pivot, but I'm sure he's fasttracked Thurston's development; and similarly Price/Civoniceva have helped guys like Myles/Hennant.
I think they should just settle with picking guys who will be there in three year's time, rather than 10 years time. Picking a team that will be there in 10 years time, means who'll end up with a team of greenhorm 21 year olds. They'll likely get smashed, which will set back their development. It's got to be about the next 3 to 4 years. To that end, there's nothing wrong next year with picking a guy like Gasnier. He'll still be there in three year's time, and I'm sure will be invaluable to someone like Jennings as a partner in the centres.
That's my thoughts anyway. I think they should avoid the temptation of 'going young' just for the sake of it. By the way, I reckon over the last few years, Wallace and Soward have shown much more than Mitch Pearce. Even at Origin level, Wallace has shown much more. I think Pearce is one of those guys who, but for his age, wouldn't be there.
