I think you're right, but Meninga's comments were appalling. At best incendiary, at worst the cheapest of cheap shots.

He ought to know better, frankly.

I would dead set sue if I was NSW selectors.

Big damages...

Impuned their character, broadcast to a wide audience, and utterly untrue.

The local bogans in todays paper have been telling Tahu to 'HTFU' and 'NRL is soft' and last but not least that 'Tahu has probably called a white person a white ****'.

Similar comments on The Daily Telegraph website...nothing like a racist slur to bring the rednecks out of the cupboard. It's scary how many people seem to think it's ok to say something like that.

I think I'll need to preface this by saying that Johns shouldn't have said what he said, however...let's try to understand why things may have happened the way they did...

I think, and everyone has been there, when you're in a vicious argument with someone, you pull out what you regard to be the most insulting remark you can think of (usually referring to their physical characteristics) and you then use it as a verbal bullet. I know, growing up as a kid, when I had arguments with my sister, I used to refer to her weight and use that as a verbal bullet.

I think if we can get into Johns' mind, when trying to rev up his teammate Beau Scott, he tried to use the most vivid and insulting remark to attempt to get his point across forcefully and impress it upon Scott. Unfortunately, that involved Inglis's race, however if Inglis was 200kg and had freckles, I'm sure the description would have been "shut down that ugly, fat c*^#%".

I guess that explains why Johns has only been heard to use these racial insults in team meetings etc, that is to fire up and appeal to his teammates by picking out the most obvious and what he thinks is the most insulting physical characteristic of a non-white player.

Over-estimating Johns' ability to think imo. Blokes just a deadbeat quite frankly, brilliant footballer, but a deadbeat.

What'd Mal say & when?
Day or so ago basically highlighted the number of indigineous players Qld have picke cf NSW and insinuated white blokes get a better look in down here with the selectors.

Imagine Laurie Daley would have been perplexed tstl.

I know you're not condoning it, but there a literally thousands of insults you can use, and for the most part they're fine if you don't bring up race.

Considering the most unworthy selection in the NSW side recently (Idris) is indigenous I don't think NSW selectors have a race problem. Hell Tahu himself was lucky to be there imo.

I just can't see MPearce having the authority to win this game for the Blues tonight.

He struggles at times for the Roosters FFS.

In fact, the Roosters looked fine the other night without him.

BARNES OUT
Pearce has been the best #7 in NSW by some distance, authoratative or not. Personally, IMO they should have put him in the #6 and kept Kimmorely, Pearce played 6 all through the junior ranks (mainly due to Sandow playing 7 iirc) and he certainly has the defensive game to do so. Anyyyyways.

FPN is a weapon.
